Actually, I've heard different recently but, I wouldn't try it until there is some sort of recovery. Better safe than sorry.

Yea. I heard you were able to do that with the optimus. But I'm not willing to take my chances. It was a question out of curiosity though.

Can someone please post the MetroWeb apk. i deleted it by mistake. My phone still runs fine, market works and everything else works fine, i have Opera downloaded and the internet works. i just miss the stock browser. thanks..

metroWeb is the stock Android browser. In the past, if you removed it, Market and other Android functions were impaired. (just like Windows needed IE for a lot of things, even if you never used IE to browse.)

Maybe Google has separated those out in Gingerbread, but in Froyo you could not remove the Android browser and still have the phone work correctly. We learned that the hard way with the LG Optimus.

Why chance it? Just keep it on the phone, and download another browser if you don't like the stock Android browser.

I made the same mistake and have the exact same results/problem. I'm guessing you cant install the apk file the easy way though. I backed up Metroweb on Titanium but it just hangs forever on "restoring".

I think one of the last few Market updates changed to where the original browser is not needed, at least I think I read that somewhere.

I hate the MetroWeb. I hate the sales-y, market-y, cheesy way that MetroWeb is presented.

I think *I* will decide what to think about it, how to feel about it, whether or not it's good for this or that, or not. Anytime some corporation, or organization that is *NOT ME* starts telling me about how something is special, good, better, and makes your pimples disappear, I auto-reflexively start believing the exact opposite.

And that comparison between Internet Explorer and Microsoft was the kiss of death, as far as I'm concerned. Let's not forget what a stinking pile of fecal matter IE was when Microsoft had it so tightly bundled into their sub-standard Operating System that you COULDN'T separate the two without pooching the illegal monopolies' substandard product.

Who behaves this way? Heavy-handed monopolistic corporations that attempt to force their customers into sub-standard situations by disallowing any competition, that's who. So can their be a thread dedicated to the idea of running Android without this MetroWeb garbage?
