Salesman was against me getting Incredible

Also, ALL corporate Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, and Sprint employees are paid both hourly and commission, although hourly tends to be quite low due to the commission aspect. When commission is your main source of pay, you have to expect any Verizon employee to try and stop you from returning or exchanging as they don't want to lose money. He should have handled the situation a different way though.

That describes high-end purchases and salespeople strategies across the board, everyone should keep this in mind whether you're buying a phone, stereo, tv, or even a car. Pretty much the same thing happened to me last month when I went to the Verizon store for an Incredible.

Salespeople need to sell TODAY - NOW - TO YOU!, and they are going to sell what's in stock (or what management orders them to sell, in the case of some special "promotions"). It doesn't matter whether it's good or bad; whether it's "right" for you or not. Keep that in mind the next time you're talking to a salesperson; he may have other priorities, not your best interests.

This isn't meant to paint salespeople as "bad". It's just the way the market works. Buyer beware.

I did the same thing. Had the Eris for a few weeks, and then returned it for an Incredible. Best decision I ever made. I love the phoen and have not had so much as a single problem with it.

Well... Google nav can be a bit buggy, but it is in beta.

Much like most of us on the forum, I love the Incredible. I came from an EnV2...but regardless the thing is amazing.

I have had a few force closes but nothing bad at all. It's super fast, great for work & play, etc. etc. don't let one verizon rep sway you.

And to be honest, whenever I go to verizon for our business 95% of the time I know more than their sales reps. Half of them are just kids trying to make commission. Don't take anything they say to heart.

When I got my Inc...first thing the kid told me was, man go home and download a task killer. You need it!

Go home and uninstall your task killer. You don't need it!

Exactly. I should have said that in my reply...but I was just making the point that verizon employees (not all of them) have no idea what they are talking about.

Even when it comes to plans/etc. I was more informed on the cost of certain business plans than the person who was helping me out.

Excuse me, are you saying meow?

Do i look like a cat to you, boy? Am i jumpin around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree? Am i drinking milk from a saucer? Do you see me eating mice? YOU STOP LAUGHING RIGHT MEOW!

Off topic...but i couldnt resist. Favorite movie.

I sure hope you folks doing these "meow"s are girls. If not, you are VERY disturbing, in a "Birdcage" sort of way, but minus the funny parts. ;)

Ahhh...gotcha. ;)

Well, I got a better one. The guy that sold me my phones (My wife got the Moto Droid), actually went as far as activating the Droid and then GOING TO THE MARKET AND DOWNLOADING TASK KILLER FOR HER! I went back the next day after seeing the download that I had obviously not done. Last I heard he was written up for that (my cousin is the Assistant Store Manager at that store).

Salesmen just care about what stock they have. I overheard some moron trying to convince a guy to buy a BlackBerry Storm over the Storm2. I just laughed at him and walked away.

LOL...He tried to get me to try the ally...i was like....lg...nah....lol...the CS person i just talked to said the store I went to is just a franchise so they will sell u whatever they have in stock. That' y she said do a straight up exchange and a corporate store will get you what u want

well, there's your problem (meow). you have to go to a corporate verizon store. that sort of makes all the difference. the woman who helped me the last time, at a corporate store, was a tech, and she is the one who upgraded me to the inc from the moto droid (after my droid freaked out...again). i was able to play with the inc in the store by...using hers! so there goes your crappy salesguy's idea that no verizon employee would use one. what a (this word deleted so i can keep using the forum).

i have never had better service than at the corporate verizon stores i have been to. they really make an effort. i get great service over the phone, too. i know some people have had problems with verizon service, but it has been stellar for me. i'm really glad you ditched that dumb store and called verizon.

...i have never had better service than at the corporate verizon stores i have been to. they really make an effort...

In my experience, it really depends on the particular corporate store. Huntersville, NC Verizon store is consistently the WORST customer service experience you can imagine, so much so that it is legendary among the local residents. The first few times I thought it was just a fluke, but after I started talking to people ... oy, no, it turns out it wasn't fluke at all. It seems you HAVE to have bad attitude, lie for all you're worth and be a condescending moron to be hired there. In comparison, the corporate store just 10 miles down the interstate is fantastic.

Similarly, the downtown Chicago store on Michigan Av. right by the bridge is staffed by crocodiles while the one on State and Monroe is super friendly and nice. Go figure.

I just wanted to add a few things.

I'm sure he was talking it down because you were about to screw him. From what I read you wanted to return the equipment to the store and do all this through customer service? If so then the salesman was losing his sale. You should always try to make any changes with your original salesman or at least at the store you made the purchase.

As for which stores are better. Generally I've heard and experienced the opposite. Agent stores are generally more customer service oriented and will work with the customers. Corp stores will lie and cheat just to get ahead.

Me screw him? he already screwed me as far as I'm concerned by selling me almost discontinued phone. It's my money and I'll take it to where I choose. I owe him nothing. wait till i walk in there today wanting a full refund. Then he'll really be "screwed"..lol

I don't know why people are always surprised with verizon Reps. this is no insult to any of them but they are just jobs for those people. I have never been to verizon ONCE when I haven't known ten times more than they did on a phone. Even the techs that fix them there don't know much. It's just a job. Regular people take those jobs. I don't think they make that much and that is why the good phone people like us don't work there. I have numerous friends that worked at various Verizons and they can barely dial a phone. My Verizon store didn't even know what a Incredible was a week after I had it and went in for accessories. Regular people apply and when they get the job they are trained to a certain point. the verizon reps onthe phone are even worse. It's just a job!!! you can't take what they say with any reliablity at all. We are the ones that have to answer the questions and figure the stuff out. Listen to what we say, not them.

by the way, the Inc is the best phone I have ever owned in my life!!!!!!!! and i am a phone nut. I live for phones. I buy 5 of them a year at full retail price the second they come out(if i want them). I have no desire for anything else. I finally have a phone I want to keep for at least a year. I'm not even looking at what coming out down the line. Also, i'm a business user coming from WM. the Dinc does EVERYTHING we need!!!!!!!!

And they have to be reasonably familiar with the entire product range, especially the cheap phones that 90% of the customers actually buy. And more importantly they need to know consumer services inside and out. That doesn't leave a lot of training time to learn the top of the line product that only 1% of customers will buy and won't be in stock for a month (if not more).

I almost never listen to salesmen, especially when I know they're commissioned. One reason I like Best Buy...a lot less pressure. They don't usually know anymore than anywhere else, but they won't harass you into buying (I'm not even sure my salesman even ASKED about the protection plan). Besides, you can answer just about any questions with 10 minutes of research online, and getting the device in your hand and trying it out.

having gotten my Dinc on first day, have been astounded at the phone. this is my first smartphone. WoW! what have i been missing. while in the store trying to get back to the salesperson that sold me my phone (was looking for screenprotectors and 2 more chargers) had a salesidiot on the floor tell me that i should never get a new release phone on the first day. I politely told him to bite me, then asked him to follow me over to the display model on sales floor where someone else was looking at INC. Showed browsing customer what my phone could atcually do, and customer immediately asked salesidiot to sign them up. SI turned blood red and helped customer. My salesperson, jerome, understands that i know more about the DINC than he does (due to forums :) ), and is happy to try and help me get what i tell him i want. You should see the crowd i got of VW employees when i was showing off LauncherPro, Ulitmate Faves, different bootanimation, zedge, etc. on mine.

Much better said than i did EUPH-22. that was a much better explination. I shouldn't have said they "they don't care it's just a job". I should have worded it more like you. They have a million phones they need to know a little something about. they can't be a pro on our phones. Plus like you said, they need to know about accessories, plans, insurance, complaints, selling the service, etc, etc. Again, i meant no disrespect to them. I'm sure most of them would agree it's just a job to them also. I would love to work for Verizon. I'm not saying I'm an expert like most of you are but i would get into being the employee that knew all the in's and out's of each phone. That said Salesman is a differnt story, he is a jerk for telling you what he said.

and again, this phone rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like most Verizon sales people he is a dumb ass!!! What he tell you to wait for moto x??? What ever, thats why none can get the Incredible, my son has been waiting for over a month, get the Incredible Its awesome. If your a Verizon sales guy sorry but prove me wrong....

I had a verizon rep at a franchise store try to sell me the Eris. I went back to a corporate store two weeks later and found out about the incredible. I ordered it on the spot and currently waiting for it to ship. I was impressed with the Eris because I didn't know better. So... I will never visit the franchise store again.

This thread already has a topic, it is the one that the OP set when he created it. It is laid out simply in the first post and it is apart of the thread title.

I don't see anything listed about random arguments with a Verizon CSR in the original topic. I may have missed it........................nope it isn't there.

Stay on the topic or do not post in this thread.

The Incredible is an awesome phone. I've had mine since the day it was released. My wife has had the Eris since January and it SUCKS. I am going to try to get her an Incredible this weekend with no money out of pocket. It is so slow and lacks any internal memory for email/apps/etc.

I have to admit, 3 months later(maybe 4-5) we get a Droid X which is bigger than the DInc, better, idk about that

This is pretty much the same boat I am in. I cancelled my contract....got a new contract at the corporate store and bought my Incred. I did like the eris for a couple days...It was new and different. but after spending some time with it I was better off sticking with my Iphone. I am stuck with a cheesy flip for a month and I'm jonesing for a smart phone. I am so used to having the internet in my pocket. I can't believe a few years ago we used to get excited over the latest flip...lol

I would think he would like the commission of selling the top VZW phone right know. Maybe you caught him on a bad day??
Right now, selling an Eris is much better than selling an Incredible, at least for Verizon. Soon they won't be able to charge anything for an Eris anymore, and they need to get them off their shelves before that happens.
