Help Same Problem, Different Day....

-Mike-

Android Enthusiast
I have trouble all of the sudden with battery life and reception. Battery life has been FANTASTIC. Now Im luck to get past noon without needing to recharge. NOTHING has changed on my end. No new apps or changes. was getting a solid 8-10 hours our of an over night charge.

Second issue, internet connection. At times, my phone could keep pace with my home computers. Now, it takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R to even connect to the Android market, Facebook, and anything in between. I have also noticed the internet problem with my Samsung moment (which is rooted and used as mobile internet connection for my laptop in my work van). I dont know if its me, or Sprint or the phones. My wife has the Epic and doesnt have any problems. She is horrible about charging her phone, leave the 4G, wi-fi, and bluetooth turned on but never has a battery problem.

I should also mention that Im in a 4G area and have never been able to connect to 4G (although my wife can on her Epic). Sprint says the 4G thing is because Im not in a 4G area, which by their map, I am dead-center of it.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Im considering the Samsung if I cant get this Evo thing resolved.

Thanks for reading my rant......

Is the device rooted?

Go to settings>about phone>battery>click on the graph. Is the phone awake at all times (wake lock)?

Have you tried updating PRL and profile?

The phone is not rooted. I forgot to mention that I did a hard reset on Monday. Still no change. I have also had some photos on SD card corrupt. Power settings have not changed or been changed.

I just tried to send 2 emails, both with a photo attached and it wouldnt send. I had to dock phone to laptop and copy pictures and email from laptop. I normally try to keep Profile and Prl up to date. I do the same with all updates. I havent done any updates since hard resetting. I'm totally bummed that I had my EVO dialed in and now its not performing.

Since you have a legitimate phone on a legitimate account and you pay for 4g and other data service, why not just drop by a Sprint store and make the issue their problem? That might be the way to go rather than going without data, doing hard resets or switching over to a whole new phone.

Theres a few reasons I don't drop by a Sprint store and let them look at it. First and foremost is that they say there's nothing wrong or we'll get you a new phone. I'm on my 4th phone. The 4G issue was addressed by them and their answer was that their network wasn't strong in my area. Food the record, I'm in the Baltimore/D.C. metro area, 5 minutes away from BWI airport. I find it hard to believe we have a weak network. The other issue is the fact that I will be without my phone for 3+ hours. I live
and die by my phone.

I have also noticed that when I close an app my screen goes white and the HTC logo appears in green for a few seconds before returning to the home screen.

You are getting hot reboots and the launcher is redrawing. That's what the white screen and the htc logo is. Also since you hard reset, update the prl first then update the data profile. See if that makes any difference. If mot call customer service from another phone and ask to have the data reprovisioned. I've seen this work in the past.

I believe we may be able to get some of your issues corrected, but it would involve being rooted. Have you ever given any thought to rooting your phone?
Lots of advantages if you do, but absolutely cool if you don't want to mess with it. :)

I was planning on rooting the evo. I was holding out to huy another/new phone. I would them pass the EVO down to my 'tether' phone. I stopped using air card once i found out i could root my Samsung moment and use it as a hot spot. I was looking to do the same with the EVO and get a new/different phone.

My only concern about rooting that I don't know much about it. It took a few attempts to get the Samsung moment rooted. I dont understand Roms and all that stuff. If you want to make it brutally easy, and think it would fix some stuff, then im all for it.

Thanks for your reply, btw.... :)

There are a few writeups that explain what it means to be rooted, terminology, etc. These can be found in the general info section of the evo root guide found here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/491123-evo-4g-all-things-root-guide.html

We have some really great step by step guides for rooting the evo, depending on the phones software version / hboot version.

If you're on the latest update you can use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/488901-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

I'll recommend using the htcdev method of unlocking first, then once you get more farmiliar with root, you can try to achieve full s-off with the captains guide or the taco root method.
Don't worry, if you don't understand much at first, just read and ask questions, thats why we're here. :)
