Same thickness as the EVO?

EVO's thickness is .47" and the leaked specs today shows the EVO Shift's thickness as .47" also. I was afraid it was going to be a brick (still looks like one) but if it's going to be the same thickness, count me in. Who am I kidding, this thing is probably going to need an extended battery anyways lol

Actually, I think the EVO is .5" thick. So the Shift is actually thinner! And just a few mm thicker than the Nexus One. Seems perfect! And MUCH lighter. 6oz to 4.6

That would be great if it was thinner, but keep in mind that the thickness is measured from the "thickest" point of the phone, so even if the EVO is measured at .5", overall it's really less than that because the back of the phone curves down on the sides. In other words, it's not .5" throughout.

Nontheless, if the specs are correct, the Shift might be the thinnest hard-keyboard slider phone that HTC has ever released. I'm very curious. Even though i really do like my EVO a lot, I would not be opposed to going back to a hard keyboard slider phone, if there's one that is as thin or thinner than the current Motorola Droid (1 or 2).

well looks like those leaked specs aren't true afterall, the Shift is noticeably thicker compared to the EVO in the wirefly review video.

yea. slightly disappointing. I wish there would be an Incredible/Nexus One for Sprint. Smaller and lighter than the EVO.

Shift seems to have a better screen. Not sure if the brightness settings were different or what. Pretty crappy video though. Not sure why he's showing us Sense features on the Evo. How about how quick it takes for an application to load, or do a screen comparison.

Amen to the idea of an Incredible, or Nexus one style phone for Sprint. They seem to really like phones with keyboards, or HUGE screens. I would like a Shift without the keyboard please... perfect.

i GUESS IT COULD JUST BE MY MIND PLAYING TRICKS ON MY, BUT THE SHIFT LOOKS WAY THICKER IN THAT VID THAN THE ORIGINAL evo DOES.

BAH misscaps!

It's not that much thicker, but it is thicker. Take into consideration that the .5" thickness that the EVO is measured at is only from the thickest part of the phone. With the way that the phone contours are structured, the only part of the EVO that's really .5" thick is the middle portion of the battery cover. The EVO gets thinner as it moves to the side of the phone.

The Shift likely looks a lot thicker because the .62" thickness extends through the most of the back cover until it reaches closer to the side of the phone.

Well, just going by numbers, that's a 10% increase right there right? I guess it's not as much as I felt it was, but it's definitely noticable. Not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. Funny that vertically it is virtually the same (it might actually be exactly the same) and horizontally it is just a hair less wide. So much for people picking this because it is the smaller of the two. Seems to me the only thing that is truly notciabley smaller is the screen, although I have yet to hold one. Will probably check it out this weekend, assuming there are working models at the local Sprint, Radio Shack, or Best Buy.

The overall size of it sort of reminds me of the original MyTouch, but it's been a little while since I've held that phone. It is not vertically the same as the EVO 4G though and feels a lot smaller as well, except for the added thickness of course.

The dimensions are extremely close to the Touch Pro 2.

A WM device? Pssh!

Haha, just kidding. Now that you mention it that seems about right to me, but with a bit more taper on the back side of the Shift.

LOL...Exactly! I'm so happy I never bothered with the Touch Pro 2 (even though people said it was worlds better than the Touch Pro) because I hated Windows Mobile, especially with TouchFlo 3D!

Nontheless, the Phonearena size comparison shows it pretty well. Just choose the Touch Pro 2 and you'll see that the dimensions are pretty darn close (Shift is a little taller).
