Samsung Acclaim US Cellular 2.2 update

I was also wondering if somebody that still had 2.1 could download the Quadrant Standard benchmark app and run it to see if there is any performance difference or not. I have ran the benchmark several times on my phone and im consistently getting 279-281. Just wondering what the difference is if any at all.

Ran it before the update. Had a low score of 184 and a high of 222 with an average of 207. After the update was getting around 270. Phone seems to run a lot smoother now. Had a buddy with an Evo run the test, and got a 1198. No wonder he's always on the damn thing, it's fast as lightning!

Hey guys,

I was thinking about a Samsung Acclaim but I have heard a lot of bad things about it freezing and etc. I wanted to know, have these problems been fixed in the Android 2.2 release? I'm new to smart phones. Thanks!

Since installing 2.2 I have had no issues with the phone locking up, I never really had problems before though. That also goes for the other people I know that have the Acclaim and did have lock up issues. 2.2 seems to have done nothing but good. There are a couple little quirks out there that need to be fixed but nothing that seems major to me.

The Acclaim is a low end Android phone. There are better options out there but the Acclaim's price is tough to beat. So if you don't have the money to spend on a more expensive phone but still want a very functional phone that will do most productivity/office type stuff without any issue then this is your phone. My best suggestion would be to go into the store and handle all of the phones you are considering. This will help you identify the little details that matter to you in a phone.

However, the phone is still lacking flash support and probably won't get it. It also struggles with or doesn't run more resource intensive games that would normally run on another handset. I don't play a lot of games on my phone so not really a big deal to me.

Some of my favorite apps on the phone that I use all of the time that work great are: AudioGalaxy, Dish Network Dish Anywhere, Pandora, ScoreTracker, Google Voice for Voicemail, Youtube, and I used to use Last.fm until they decided they wanted to make mobile users pay for their service. Tons more apps out there that work great on the Acclaim but those are the ones I use all the time.

Hopefully that gives you a good overview of what the phone can and can't do.

Thanks Sammy! What do you think about the battery life of the phone? Also, is the call quality good? You think that the freezing and locking up problem has been fixed by Version 2.2?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just don't want to be locked into a phone for the next year that I hate!

Battery life is not bad, its an Android device, so it sucks compared to regular phones. The call quality has never been an issue for me. 2.2 made the phone run a lot better. The guys over at SDX have a lot of options for rooting and making the phone even better. I have used Launcher Pro instead of the stock launcher and havent had any of the issues other have had, maybe just good luck but both of my acclaims dont have all those issues. I have heard others have rid their phones of issues after using a different launcher. If you can, I would go with a better phone, but if you cant, this phone should be a good starter Android. I cant wait til the next lineup of phones comes out... Should make the Desire and Mesmerize look like toys :)

I have a Samsung Acclaim, and I was just wondering if anyone else's center button on the front of the phone (right under the Samsung logo) doesn't work after loading 2.2? Both my daughter and I loaded it, and our buttons were working before we loaded it, and now it only works intermittently. US Cellular seems to think it's my phone, but why would both of our phones be affected after the download, and not just one? They want me to tkae it to a service center to havbe it looked at, but I'm not sure it's woth the 20 mile trip just for that.. everything else is ok!

If you are talking about the button waking the phone..... It will wake the phone if there is an open app or if the phone is charging. There may be a couple other scenarios where it will wake the phone. When the phone is not charging and locked, the power button and sliding the keyboard out, are the only ways to unlock. I like it better since its much more difficult to unlock in your pocket now. If you are saying that it doesnt work when you try to use it with the phone on, then you may want to get it looked at.
