Is there any way to install the app that gives access to the Samsung app store?

The GPE version of the Galaxy S4 does not come with it, of course. There are apps there that are not in the Google Play store. For example the Galaxy Gear manager needed to run the samsung smartwatch.

That link allowed me to download the apk, and try to install it. I get an "App not installed" message and the install fails.

I'm not sure that you can install that on the Google Edition of the S4. I do believe someone has created a custom rom for our phones that has all the Samsung software included though (I'm too chicken to try it lol). Try searching XDA in our device area.

Galaxy Gear compatibility is built into the S4 GPe as part of the KitKat update. Gear Manager 1.0.0.2 is included, though I don't have a Gear to test it with.
