Samsung Apps

I bought a Samsung GT-15500 yesterday. I've not had a smart phone before, so I'm a beginner with these things.
The phone works fine on my vodafone sim only deal, for calls and texts. I have enabled wifi connection to my home router and can browse the internet. But I don't know how to install an app?
If I click on Samsung Apps icon it starts, but only says No updates.. how do I get to see the apps and download them? The manual is no help.

Thanks

You will need to get yourself a gmail account and sign in on the phone, it all works quite well after that. Get Appbrain more choice than Market.

Thanks.. i clicked on market and created a googlemail account. I had a few probs but eventually saw a list of apps. Then when i was looking at them, the screen went totally white, I couldn't get out of it, so turned the phone off and on again. Now everything works but clicking on market brings up a server error message that I can't get past.

I've switched the phone off/on again, but its the same. I'll try again in the morning.

You need to change your googlemail account to a gmail 1 log into google and there is a button to do this. otherwise the downloads just hang as you have found.

Thanks, I will give gmail a try.

As I suspected it started working again the following morning. I can now see the apps listed in market.:)
