Samsung confirms gingerbread for all galaxy s models

Vibrant BARELY got 2.2...you will get 2.3, but by that time Google will be on 3.0 or more. Just face it, Samsung SUCKS....oh boy will i never buy another Samsung phone.
Don't get me wrong, vibrant was probably one of the best phones i had, but lack of support from Samsung is something i cant deal with.

I think in order to make this fair to all the hard working independent developers, this should be reworded to "Samsung BARELY released 2.2 for the Vibrant". In all honesty, 2.2 has been out for quite a while on the Vibrant, in a better format than Samsung ever could provide. I can't imagine sticking with a stock ROM after loading custom one's on here ever again.

Amen to this! My wife has the "official" Froyo update from Samsung on her phone while I have now had both Axura and TW's ROM's on mine. There's absolutely no comparison in how much better the custom ROMS are. I love this phone now, no thanks to Samdung.

I waited for quite a while to put anything on mine because I was scared of bricking it. Well after it getting bricked twice anyway, I went ahead started flashing my phone.
First of all, the third party ROM's seem to be much more stable, faster and all-in-all better than stock. I too can never go back to a stock device again.
Secondly, I do know that a couple of the devs over at Team Whiskey have started tinkering with Gingerbread already, but I am not sure what kind of timetable they are looking at for the next release.
Right now I am just trying to be patient and wait for one the these great developers to give us the Gingerbread sexiness!!

Disable your lagfix, unroot your device (just to be safe, but isn't necessary), then either wait for your OTA to notify you or proceed via the download on your PC and use mini Kies (instructions in other threads have already been posted).

Time to come out from under your rock then :) Took Samsung and T-Mobile what, 8 months to get a release for Froyo? Now Samsung has the Vibrant 4G and the Galaxy S 2 to worry about, there's no way they're going to spend the resources required to get a fully functional Gingerbread release on their flagship device.

I have the Vibrant and have had it for 6 months. Bricked it with Mini Kraps and flashed it myself with 2.2.

So....yes I understand and you still haven't answered my question.

8 months?
The Galaxy S series hasn't even been out for 8 months. Official Froyo update for T-Mo for less than a month.
I'm obviously on the wrong thread, I thought there were some knowledgeable people with answers here....or sources for their speculations at the very least.

Better get back under my rock now..
 
He wasn't trying to be a jerk, and neither should you.

The Vibrant launched ~July 15th last year, so that is indeed 8 months. 9 months if you include international launch dates. That is a pretty standard lifespan of a phone if you compare to any other manufacturer.

If you followed the chaos behind the 2.2 rumors that were flying around for months on end, it's next to impossible to get a solid source stating anything about updates until it actually happens. You want a source to back rumors, it's kind of hypocritical, just because someone's paid to write a blog doesn't make it more credible than any of ours speculations.

Speculations are just that, rumors and not always true. Until T-Mobile announces themselves that our Vibrant will get 2.3 or not, then it's all rumors and you can't trust them. No need to get mad about it.

I sure am glad there are others here that are knowledgeable as well (can you detect the sarcasm? :D )

It's just business, Jess. Plain and simple. There are other things on Samsung's plate than to worry about Gingerbread on the original Vibrant. Insulting others because you're not getting the answer you want to hear won't do you any good on these, or any forums.

By the way, how's that rock treating you? (sorry, had to).
 
I am running gingerbread CM7 on the vibrant right now. It's just an early release but dang, this thing is super quick. GPS doesn't work on it right now but i can deal with that.

Because I use to wait forever wondering if I would ever get the new android updates, then I found a place called xda; which is full of devs that make roms with the latest versions of android updates.
 
Interesting. Definately cool if true. But leads me to think this is for the 4G version, unless they're classified as different models, but who knows just my thoughts. If it is true, wonder how they'd distribute it. OTA would destroy carriers during the distribution with 250MB per, but Mini Kies would lead to riots since people already had so much troubles with 2.2.

Can't wait to see the five million threads about "OMG WTF WHENS 2.3 COMING?!"
 
If you want 2.3 and feel comfortable flashing and using odin, you can get a VERY functional port of 2.3 from CyanogenMod - CM7. Its been my daily driver for a few days and im happy with it for a stock build (granted from another phone).

Team Whiskey (the most consistently awesome and stable ROMs out there) is currently working on a ginger bread source (straight from the devs posting on face book). And i CANT WAIT!

Try CM7, or if you want something a little more polished and not in it's beta phase, try out bionix 1.3.1!
