Samsung dropping Android? Say it aint so.

Another reason why Samsung's proprietor mobile platform will fail:

Samsung is a hardware company and had been doinga a shitty job of writing software. If you've used software or drivers written by Samsung, then you already know making software is not their strong point.

Nice news, this will be the death of samsung on middle and high end phones, they will be New Nokia.
Nice one sammy.

I think it's good idea for samsung develop and manage their own OS instead of waiting for someone (google) to make OS and then port it to their devices. I bet with their own OS will have a lot less issues than now (i.e. WiFi issue 4.0.4 samsungs have).

And! It's open sources based on linux, I'm waiting this!

Guaranteed their sales go down if they drop Android

It's not open source, it's not based on Linux. Samsung has had their own os all along, they're simply replacing it.

Samsung provides the kernels, drivers and radios in their Android products.

I would've really liked to see Samsung break away from Google and form it's own OS. This would make the market more nexus vs iPhone vs Galaxy S

Why?...Guaranteed, Samsung looses its steam as a mobile powerhouse, if it drops Android. They'd in essence be turning themselves into what Apple is and would also have to have developers create apps for their OS (so all of the apps that can be enjoyed by iPhone and Android users alike would be gone). I hope Samsung execs aren't that dumb.

In any event, it doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon:
Report: Samsung wont be leaving Android for Tizen anytime soon

1. Samsung wants to start adding Tizen devices to its portfolio and will not move away from Android until it sees profits coming from it the way they are getting profits from Android.

2. By the time they start getting good profits from Tizen to be able to move away from android entirely, you will not even remember you had the Note 10.1 as it will take years to develop as good an OS as Android is ATM.

3. They have already invested in Bada OS and have decided to dump it as it was not bringing any profit. Right now, it is going to be even more difficult with Android's position in the market, and it is growing all the time.

Even if they move away from Android, does that mean your Note 10.1 will stop working the day they stop producing Android phones and tablet (which I believe will never happen)?

Excellent points. I don't think Samsung will be able to completely dump Android for several years. And, even if that does happen it's not going to affect current phones/contracts. HTC took a chance on Android and look where it is today. Who knows, we may see some new manufacturers become big names in the next few years.
