not quite sure how do u check if it is correctly set up

Hi,
The settings the provider gave you for using mobile internet have to be correct. You can check or set them here: Settings- wireless and networks - Mobile networks - Access Point Names - Mobile Internet. The box has to be ticked and settings have to be correct (for example APN, Port etc., just check everything).

Hi,
I tried to give you some directions, but by accident that post appeared later in this thread (next page). You can look over there.

Hi,
For Google applications and Market you do need a Google / Gmail account! You can create this account on your pc. Then when you start up the Market or Google it will be able to connect.

Hi,
My provider uses 900/2100 and my phone can only pick up the 2G signal which is painfully slow. The 5830L version of this phone uses 850/1900 for the HSDPA connection. I've seen workarounds for other phones. Modems, etc. Does anybody have a solution for me?
Thanks so much
Josh

This from another post in this forum, for galaxy s but i tried it and it works on the Ace:

SAMSUNG i9000 GALAXY S

GSM/EDGE : 850Mhz - 900Mhz - 1800Mhz - 1900Mhz

WCDMA/3G : 850Mhz - 900Mhz - 1900Mhz - 2100Mhz

HI EVERYBODY,
don't worry, i am not Crazy like my NickName states and making your Galaxy S work on 3G with a Carrier that offers 3G only on the 850Mhz Spectrum is as easy as a Finger Tap on the Screen of your Phone.

Phone companies make Cell Phones for Europe as well as United States, but for sure, to not waste money in making different Chip Boards that can handle different kind of Frequencies, they just make the Same Identical Phone and just enable or disable some Functions.

In the United States, some carriers, in my case i have a contract with AT&T, use 3G only in the 850Mhz Band, but if you bought your Phone Unlocked and like me it came from Europe, the 850Mhz Band is disabled, so you just have to Enable the 850Mhz Band Frequency in order to be able to pick up the 3G Frequency of you Carrier here in the US.

Here is how you do it:

Open the Phone Screen and Type the following code:

* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *

The phone will automatically take you to a screen called:

SERVICE MODE

AND YOU WILL SEE THESE OPTIONS:

----------------------
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
[2] VERSION INFO
[3] UMTS RF NV
[4] GSM RF NV
[5] AUDIO
[6] COMMON
----------------------

all these options are written very very small so you will have to touch the screen very accurately to get the right one... so select them in the following order:

[1] Debug Screen
+
[8] Phone Control
+
[7] Network Control
+
[2] Band Selection

Once you Tap on "Band Selection" you will have a screen stating these 4 Options:

-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------

The Asterisk ' * ' indicates what option has been chosen, in this case the selection is on "AUTOMATIC" which is correct: the Phone will pick the best Network to work, we just have to make sure that the Phone is searching in all the Possible Networks because by Default some of them are Disabled.

So Tap on:
[2] WCDMA Band []

and on the screen you will see appearing the following Options:

----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V) []

-----------------------------------

In my case, since the Telephone comes from Europe, the 850 Band is not enabled and you can tell that by the fact that it doesn't have the ' * ' beside it.

JUST TAP ON
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)[]

the phone in about a second will tell you that the Option has been Enabled.

~~~To Go Back DO NOT USE THE "LOOPED ARROW" Button~~~
=== PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON
and select "BACK" ===
now on the screen you should see the Asterisk beside all the Frequencies, like this:
----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------
Now, just to make sure that we did everything right, let's press again the "MENU BUTTON" and select again "BACK" so we go back to the
" =BAND SELECTION= " Screen:
-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------
This time, let's choose a different Option:
Tap On:
[4] Combi Bands []
and you will see a screen giving many more Bands Options like this:
----------------------------------
= COMBINATION BANDS =
[1] GSM 850
[*]
[2] GSM 900
[*]
[3] DCS 1800
[*]
[4] PCS 1900
[*]
[5] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[6] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[7] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[8] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------
Make sure that there is the ' * ' beside the "WCDMA 850 (FDD V)" if you don't see it, Tap on that Option so that it will be enabled.
And then go Back (remember you have to do that with the "MENU BUTTON" and not with the "LOOPED ARROW" Button) and make sure that all the Bands have been enabled.
If all the 8 Different Bands Options have the Asterisk beside it, you have successfully enabled all the 3G Bands available and now you will be able to access the 850Mhz 3G Network Spectrum.
ONCE YOU ARE DONE PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON AND CHOOSE: " END "
This is it, for me it worked, now i am using my Samsung Galaxy S with AT&T 3G and for now, i didn't have any problem... i don't know if in the future AT&T will "'bitch'" about this, but i really hope not.
After all, it's their fault that they keep locking down the Android Phones that they sell making them as much Unusable as an iPhone.
I hope this post help
or... u can do this
Hi,
I have been having some problems with my samsung galaxy aces internet. It is connecting automatically to the internet, which has caused me to go a lot over the amount of internet i have, and so costing me a lot of money.
I have tried going into settings and unchecking the 'use packet data' box, but it will just re check it later. I have also tried holding down the power key and then deactivating the data network mode. This also gets re selected.
I was hoping that someone had a solution to this? if so, is there a second way in case what you suggest doesn't work! >.<
Also, there's one other thing... what exactly does the symbol in the top with the two arrows pointing opposite directions mean? there's usually a letter with it. Its something to do with the internet i assume...?
Hai!Can anyone help me to solve this problem.im currently using samsung ace.I cannot access android market, gmail, and other google apps.Whenever I try to open, eg the Android market, it tries to add a google account on the phone, asks for the google ID and password, says 'your phone needs to communicate with google servers to setup your account. this may take upto five minutes', nothing happens and then says 'can't establish reliable data connection to the server'.Can anyone tell me how to solve it!Thank you.
Hi
There is one problem I am facing in my Galaxy Ace for quite some time. When I enable the packet data, edge icon doesnot appear neither the internet works. When I restart my phone, edge icon also comes as well as the internet starts working. But when I disable the packet data, it doesnot come till the next restart.
Please help me in solving this issue.
Okay so I got the Glaxy Ace for x-mas, it was working fine, the internet was connected (you know the little H symbol at the top of the screen), the other day I went out of range for like 2 minutes, when range came back the internet symbl (H) was gone. So I went into setting to turn on the Packet Data, and I ticked it and it suggested not to use it as it charges alot, so I turned it on anyways. I went to use the internet and it's fine, the internet is working now except it EXTREMELY slow....
Help????
hello i have a samsung galaxy ace and the network work properly by packet data but when use wi-fi some application can't work like google play,opera,uc,skype but internet explorer is work properly what shall i do to connect wi-fi to other application
i am
confused::confused::confused:
So I have read Cyberwhip's very detailed post about how to change frequency bands for a Samsung i9000 Galaxy S from January this year on this very page.
You said your method is also valid for a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. Well I have this phone, that I bought in Europe, that is unlocked and that I want to use in the US. I got a "pay as you go" offer from AT&T including unlimited texts, calls and date, and they said it would be working fine on my phone. As a matter of fact, it is not. And they are quite incompetent at the store I went to (even the manager seemed pretty dumb).
Apart from the fact that I understood 3 days after purchasing it that this kind of offer do not cover data for smartphones but only for "regular phones" (it does actually but I would run out of credits within a few days, even hours if I use it on my smartphone), It appears that I CAN NOT connect to 3G and that's really a pain in the ass.
I followed accurately your instructions but there seems to be some slight differences between what you described for the Galaxy S and what I can see on my Galaxy Ace.
Namely, when I reach the "BAND SELECTION" Menu I only get :
------------
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band Preference
[3] GSM Band Preference
So I try to get into "WCDMA Band Preference" and then I get :
-------------------
[1] WCDMA 850
[2] WCDMA 900
[3] WCDMA 1800
[4] WCDMA 1900
[5] WCDMA 2100
[6] WCDMA ALL
I tried to select "WCDMA ALL" (then it appears with a spar next to it). But both GSM & Data connection stop then !
So I tried to select "WCDMA 2100" (which is then displays as "WCDMA IMT2000" once selected). Again GSM & Data connection stoped.
Same result with "WCDMA 900". It displays a star next to it but nothing works.
Trying "WCDMA 850", "WCDMA 1800", "WCDMA 1900" had no results (those won't even display a star next to them once selected).
The only way to have connection working again is to select "Automatic" in the "BAND SELECTION" Menu. Or to select "GSM 850/1900" or "GSM 850" or "GSM 1900" or "GSM ALL" in the "GSM Band Preference" subsection of the "BAND SELECTION MENU". But still it would only display "E" for Edge Data connection (or "G" sometimes).
So I'm quite confused. What should I do to have a proper 3G connection, which is the only thing I want because, let's face, Edge is crap.
I hope you can help me in this matter. And, if not, just let me know what you think should be the best alternative to solve my problem considering I'm only staying in the US for 6 months...
Thanks a lot!
Emilien.
Hi there,
I stumbled onto this post - I have exactly the same issue, and tried the solution described below, but I don't seem to be able to change the [] to [*]
Any advice?
Goto Menu>Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Networks and disable the first option :)
For Wifi only just switch on your Wifi, and goto Menu>Settings>Wireless and Networks>Wifi Settings and you'll see an option there to notify you when there is an open network available :)
Thanks for that, the option "Use packet data" should either be disabled by default or the phone should ask whether you want to connect via wifi or 3G when you start the internet enabled app etc.
My sister got the phone, had
I also am having dramas with my wireless, it's in a connection loop after trying to fix it using static IP and allshare workarounds, previously though it would connect and stay on about as long as it took to open my darned browser. Now it won't connect at all. grr. wi-fi keep alive doesn't work, any suggestions?
maybe only the factory reset?
I've had my galaxy ace for about a year now, and until recently, the internet would work wherever i'd go. But now it only seems to work when i'm at home, and whenever i go out somewhere away from home it doesnt connect at all.
Please could someone get back to me asap? thankyou
