Root Samsung Galaxy Attain rooted without google play app

Hi guys,

I am new to the android rooted phone scene. I just got a rooted attain 4g for metropcs. Everything works fine, internet, text, web, mms, but I have no google play app. I am not sure what the deal is, I have set up my google gmail account on the phone under accounts and sync and the gmail app as well. I have checked for the old android market app icon too, but it is nowhere to be found. I am pretty good with phones, however this problem has left me dumbfounded. Like I said the phone is rooted. I have also tried to connect to google play but the phone is not picking up there either, only my old android apps. I have tried to download google play apps directly from the attain's internet browser as well. Is there any way I can unroot the phone to turn it back to the normal attain 4g, or is there anyway I can get the google play app onto my phone? Also, I have the avast security root from the last user, I know the password, but I am looking to remove it entirely from my phone

It's the google apps package for Gingerbread.

Alternatively you can Re-flash the pre rooted tar... or even gasmod which is pretty cool brings an ICS themed look to your attain.

First you need to make sure you have the right drivers found here

ok, great man, thanks so much, I have a much better grasp on my rooted phone through your post and other posts concerned my attain 4g. I had a couple of other quick noobie questions as well.

So I should flash google apps pack using odin flashing tool?

And how do I sideload an app like titanium backup, what folder do the .apk files go in is what I am asking I guess? & should I sideload Titanium Backup prior to flashing over gasmod.tar & the .pit file?

Well first if you want to just try and get your play store back flash the gapps with your recovery, I'm pretty sure the stock Android recovery can install from sd card I may be wrong though. If you can't do that you can use odin to flash the prerooted tar it should have a working play store app built into it.

To side load titanium backup move it to your SD Card to a directory of your choosing and use a file manager to install the apk. It's a great program to have also try and get ROM toolbox.
 
Should I flash both preroot.tar and the gasmod.tar or just the gasmod.tar? And for the google pack those are just apk files right?

Following the instructions in the guide will root your phone from stock....

But this is also how I flashed gasmod to my device... I.e. Gasmod.tar replaces Pre-rooted.tar

You can't Flash both at the same time... Either you want the stock, Pre-rooted.tar file. Or you can use the themed Gasmod...

I don't know if it matters that i had the prerooted.tar on my phone before I flashed gasmod... As long as you have root access I don't think it should matter... If only someone could back me up on this I don't want to be wholly responsible for misinformation... I am NOT an expert by far, I can only share my experiences.

I am having another problem, it is not really related but I figured I would ask rather than creating an entire new thread. I am not receiving some text messages since I have gotten my rooted attain. Any updates that I can apply to help fix this? Or some other idea you might that might help improve the reliability of my sms messages? Service area is not a major problem, as I live in the city.

Same thing happened to me and I can't flash with Odin because everytime I try it never passes. It gets stuck on NAND write start and bricks my phone. I wanna be able to use my playstore. Please help :(
 
To get playstore working use titanium backup and make playstore a system app.

As far as the oden problem it could be that u don't have a complete .tar file. Heh I actua/ly had it stop writing and freeze, I was like wtf. Came to find out the .tar hadn't fully downloaded.

Another thing I have noticed is that oden soetimes doesn't work as it should. I had it fail over and over again. I pulled the usb then restarted oden then my phone then plugged it in and tried and it worked. Don't know if there is some sort of sequence it requires for it to work or not. Try different ways

Just remember to uncheck the repartition box
 
Hello people I have a app that will fix the no play store problem and youtube not working problem its a app that installs/replaces the playstore n all the files that go with it then once installed u just update youtube in it works now here is the my problem I have the .apk file on my sd card but idk how to put it on here can someone message me how or give me a email address I think I can send in a email idk for sure I was stuck without play store n youtube for like a week it sucks n I wanna help out sooooooo yeah
