Help samsung galaxy internal space

I just bought the samsung galaxy II s phone, and looked online at at&t's website, and it said that it has up to 16 gb of internal memory. on my phone, for device memory, it says that is has 1.85 gb available... what is going on here??? i thought it would have had 16 gb? also, what is the usb storage? is that my sd card?

If im guessing right, you're looking at the wrong place:
your phone has 16gb - out of which around 3gb is system files that you need to run your phone and the harddrive itself, and out of that samsung put 2gb aside for use of applications only, and on that 2gb you can't put music or pictures etc..

out of those 2gb there are some preinstalled apps that take some space,
thats why you have 1.85gb available, you should see another X/11gb free on that same page - Settings\Storage\

SD card - external memory card
USB storage - 11.5gb of storage for music etc.
Device memory - 2gb for apps.

I hope that solved your problem

the htc desire has 170MB-ish of space in comparison, and I had almost 100 apps installed on my desire at one point, but it did soon run out of room due to poor cache management.

my Samsung Galaxy S2 had 1.87GB free new, I have 54 installed apps and still have 1.6GB free now.

2GB isnt huge, but you really shouldnt run out too quick unless you install some huge games.

when you do, you can always move parts of some of the apps to SD to get some space back.

ok. thanks, that does help! just one more question... it says on the website, 1080P for the quality, but i look on the box, and it says 720P. which one is it?

there's no LED on the SGS2 so i dont think u can turn it on :D

EDIT: unless, as i notice, u've not bought the international edition which is being discussed here, and that has LED notifications

Good point heshanj.

This is where it gets confusing with all the different editions. :D

sniper8752, is your phone the "International" edition or did you get it from AT&T?

I bought it from at&t.how would I have gotten the international version? And there seems to be two little things on the front, next to the webcam. I was thinking maybe one of em was a led notification.

AT&T have their own edition/hybrid of the International SGSII. It is slightly different, hence the seperate forum to avoid confusion.

the international version has leds?

anyway, try an app called NoLED
it does "LED" notifications.

NoLED is a battery drainer in my experience.

The only effective way I have found is BLN (Back Light Notification) in rooted phones with BLN ROM and kernel support.

hm, i'm afraid to (jail)break my new $250 phone, even though i did it with the aria phone... don't wanna take any chances :p i did hear about the BLN though, which is awesome! its funny, because i thought all droid phones have it, but i guess only the htcs do... One last thing, i talked to a third party retail rep for at&t, and they said you can charge your phone overnight with no harm to the battery since the phone has a device to cut off charging when it's at 100%. the official rep. at the at&t store said it was a bad idea, because it never really stops charging... whats the story here???

That official rep needs to read up on modern lithium-ion battery technology. All li-ion batteries have overcharge protection circuitry built-in. Overnight charging is perfectly safe.
