Help Samsung galaxy note jelly bean official update

Kies seems to be working fine for me and I sync Outlook 2010 with it nicely.

But still no JB upate for me (UK-sourced unlocked phone on T-Mobile here in the UK).
 
My 2p worth. My phone is UK Vodafone. Updated about a few days ago, OTA update failed but worked fine through KIES. So far, I am loving Jelly Bean. Got rid of Go launcher as the stock launcher is v. good and doesn't have the endless irrelevant updates that Go does. Particularly like the Smart Stay and the ability to have quick access icons on the lock screen. Feels like a new phone.

BTW, recently bought an Iphone 4s (for a development project) and it just confirmed for me that Samsung are much more innovative than Apple. The 4s seems very pedestrian by comparison.
 
I was notified this week that 4.1.2 was available so I upgraded.

Since then I find that my phone gets warm and the battery lasts less than 4 hours. I'm not entirely sure but I think it is because of "My Tracks", which I use now and then. Now it seems to be permanently on and it is not possible to close it. I think it's used by "Google Now". The only way I could get my battery life back was to uninstall My Tracks but then "Now" is not much use.

Has anyone else had this issue?

This is weird, I am on EE.
I had a message this morning to say my phone was ready for the update. Tried it, it failed, said to use Kies. And that is saying my phone is up to date.... any ideas??? (I am on a stock rom etc!!)
 
Mine briefly said 'Android is updating' but nothing of note happened. I am on EE/T-Mobile in the UK and have an unlocked/unbranded GT-N7000.
 
Looks like JB has arrived naturally without having to root anything. It's available through o2 and Vodafone. Bring on the Key Lime Pie!
 
i updated via kies today.

with the history i had with crap battery life after updating to ics, i factory reset my phone straight away after the update to jb.

cant really comment on what battery life's like at the moment because im configuring it back to how i like.

screen resolution seems better somehow?
 
Got the update too. First thing am changing is the stupid default plop sound effect and switching back to the Swype keyboard!

I noticed at first that the scroll smoothness wasn't very good but it has improved - it's less free-running, but in a way that's good because the scroll is less likely to zoom past where you are aiming. Managing apps and widgets is much better, now and the new sideways scrolling button bar on the notification panel is very good. It's like having a new phone :)
 
the update came with a bit of bloat which is crap considering it's unbranded etc. Like Flipboards, what the hell, i dont want that shit. I know I can disable it, but still. And while adding crap, they've taken away the task manager.

After htc promised ics on my desire hd years ago, but then backtracking saying they're not going to release it, to samsung absolutely killing my battery since updating to ics, i think im just gonna stick to nexus devices after this.
 
In my experience of JB on the Note the battery killer is WiFi. The drain rate with WiFi on is far worse than under ICS. Signal blackspots are another killer too. Google Now won't help either. Still, with suitable adjustments the battery life can be extended quite easily. I'm coming up on three days since charging and have 57% battery remaining with 35 minutes screen time. I have disembowled Flipboard, G+, Google Now and a few other ne'er-do-wells and use Greenify to hibernate almost every user app whether it needs it or not.

I experienced no difference in battery consumption between GB and ICS.

I don't consider Flipboard to be bloatware - it's a new Google initiative and alternative to Currents, providing access to lots of free magazine articles across a wide spectrum of subjects and if there is any advertising I haven't seen any!

My Note today looks and behaves like a completely new phone after the JB update - am very pleased indeed.

Is that with WIFI connected or not? In my experience with WIFI connected to a network the phone uses less power than it does with WIFI disabled and using 3G/H+.

BUT with WIFI turned on but not connected to a network it does use a lot of battery, presumably due to scanning for available networks. To avoid this I use an app called WIFI Power Saver that will disable WIFI after a defined period of time that it has lost connection.
 
WiFi was connected throughout (until disabled) and with the phone left on the kitchen counter unused. Signal was adequate if not strong, and ought not to have led to signal dropouts. The drain rate with WiFI on was 5% per hour with the phone idle, suggesting a flat battery from an unused phone in just 20 hours. I don't recall exactly how things faired with ICS, but I'm sure they were MUCH better than this.

FWIW I've been running JB for a couple of months (original German JB ROM and now the latest German ROM) and the issue is/was present on both ROMS.
 
If anyone is still waiting for their upgrade I think it is worth checking that your Kies installation is up to date. I am pretty sure this got things going for me after updating Kies on my laptop and if I recall it was the same for the ICS update.

It says the current firmware version is PDA:LRK/PHONE:LRK:CSC:LP5 (XEU) and the latest version is PDA:LSZ/PHONE:LSO/CSC:LS4 (XEU). Is this Jellybean?

I know nothing about Kies and how it works. I've seen a lot of people complaining that they have had real trouble after updating via Kies but I would like to update soon. Does anyone have any thoughts please?

If you are uncertain get it done under warranty at a service center. Back up first (be aware you'll lose s_Memo etc), do a hard reset before and after (as per NeoGrandizer's post #6 and #16 at link below)

Personally, being ultra cautious, I remove both SIM and SD cards.
