Not to completely thread jack, but can you explain how you are using Gmail? Are you using an address such as email@gmail.com or are you running your personal email through gmail - such as email@mydomain.com
I have my own domain name and my emails are set up there, I understand that it is possible to run my mail through gmail servers, is this what you are doing?
Yep, I have all my email addresses fetched through Gmail's servers and deliver to my one @gmail.com address. I believe it maxes out at 5 outside POP accounts, FYI. Then, instead of using Android's stock messaging, I use the Gmail app. My only gripe is that Gmail doesn't have a way for you to set an interval for checking pop accounts, but rather it learns by checking the accounts at random times. If it finds email on one day, it may wait 24 hours to fetch again. If more email is found at that second fetch, it tries again after say 18 hours. If more is found, it tries 16 hours, etc etc. I've been using the system for about 4 months now, and my fetched pop emails are usually about 5-10 minutes behind the "actual" receive time on their own servers, so I always use my @gmail address for important things, as that comes instantaneously.
Now that I think about it, yeah, I do keep that turned on. Oh well, I like cheating when it gets things done quicker
As for the alarm, my wife did set it to 10 snoozes, but it still didn't snooze more than 3 times. She' hasn't had the need for more than 2 or 3 since then, so I'm not sure if it's still an issue or not. I'll test it out tonight on hers and mine.

hmm... the delay sounds a little wonky. Curious, are you using google apps? Between posts I did a little digging and I just signed up for a free google apps account. This gives me the ability to change my MX records on my mail server and run all of my @mydomain mail straight through the google mail servers, completely bypassing my webhost as far as email goes.
Is this what you are describing?
I have no time to set it up tonight as I have work to get done, but it looks pretty straight forward and I'm thinking that if I am able to do this, and then run my mail through the gmail app this may alleviate some of my email woes in regards to this phone.
I'll probably give this a go this weekend. This would be very nice as the email is one of my biggest gripes. I really miss that instant blackberry email.... :-/

No, I'm fetching my hotmail, yahoo, and three other personal domain email addresses through Gmail (I don't want to do a forward yet, as I lose all my saved emails by doing so...they're with 1and1.com). I know what you're talking about though. I'm not using google apps yet, but if you're using google as your pop and smtp, then you'll get the emails right away.
Exactly. I'd love to see all of the "bleh, bleh, bleh my gps works perfect all the time" peoples Vibrants. I guarantee that all have "use network locations" checked.

I deliver pizza's in a 10 mile radius all directions of where i worked. instead of using my actual GPS, i used the vibrants GPS WITHOUT WIRELESS NETWORKS. worked a-ok. even re-routed within a few seconds. mine works flawlessly.
Of course my network locations box is checked...lol...why wouldn't someone have it checked?...let alone not have it checked, then whine about it not working?...lol
Not sure, but I just set every thing up as I described above via google apps, set up my personal email address (email@mydomain.com), updated the MX records to run my mail through goggles servers instead of my web host, set my accounts up in google apps, and set up a new imap account in my desktop email client, and added my personal @mydomain account to the gmail app on my vibrant.
I then sent mail to both my personal @mydomain account and to my gmail account, the mail came to my email client on my desktop right away, like within 3 seconds, but it took about 5 minutes to come to the gmail app on my phone.
Still not immediate but definitely much better than what I've been dealing with.

I have a little experience with exchange (and how it werms it's way through Server 2003) and I'm pretty happy keeping that experience small for now...lol

Good for your Vibrant. Neither my first Vibrant, my wife's, or my current Vibrant works at all without having use wireless networks checked. Hmmm, I wonder if this is why Samsung is coming out with a fix for this.

.....let me count the ways
1. GPS does not work. Crashes or locks up my phone. Or just cant find a satellite.
2. Email client is terrible. Cant DL yahoo mail while on wifi. Does not retrieve mail in a timely manner.
3. Had a problem with the audio player and the Google listen app launching. Turns out it was the button from the wired headset. However, that not being a bug. There is no way to disable the action. Plugging into an audio cable for playback can cause an automatic launch of both apps too. Both apps begin to glitch by auto toggling between play and pause. I usually have to do a battery pull just to stop it.
4. Battery indicator wrongly shows true battery status.
5. Battery life not good.
I like the idea of the Vibrant it is just not properly tested or in my opinion even properly reviewed. Like myself I just think a lot of good intentioned people want to like this phone. Full disclosure I am an self professed Apple user and fan. I have been using Apple Products since 1994. I am in the music industry and MY business use depends on their products. Yet I have have never owned an iphone. I hate At&t more than my love for Apple. I am also very intrigued by Android. I have already owned a Motorola Cliq, My Touch 3g slide and now a Samsung Vibrant. I am hoping the phone can be fixed with software.

I see a lot of satisfied Vibrant owners here, as well as a lot of discontented Vibrant owners here. To those who are discontented and end their posts with how the Vibrant is not ready for market, has too many bugs and glitches, and how you just aren't impressed by it, why not just sell the dang thing? You can get top dollar for it right now, and the unlock code can be discovered in less than two minutes (time includes downloading the free app).
Then again, if you're waiting for the software to come out, why post what 200 other people already have posted about the things wrong with it? Wait until Froyo comes out, then post if it still doesn't fit your requirements. I have absolutely no complaints about mine, because the good outweighs the bad. Granted, I know all of San Diego like the back of my hand (never realized that freckle there!), so I don't rely on the GPS, and I use 3rd party apps instead of stock ones and keep the device plugged in a bunch while in the car driving, so I understand if you don't have a car charger and need the GPS to get you around but don't want to enable wireless networks for the sheer principle of the matter...(I know somebody is laughing at that ).

First, I do love my phone. Second, whoever is responsible needs to hurry up and roll out froyo for the vibrant. I mostly care about adobe flash. It seems we are one of the last super phones to get 2.2. Yes, I'm growing impatient.

Sorry my or our discontent rains on your Vibrant parade.
I thought these forums were meant to be a place to get information, share tips and yes even complain. Yes, I could sell my phone if I had time to that but I would rather have the product I bought to work. I also would not feel right selling something that is broken to someone else. At present this is the best phone T-mobile has to offer so it would be leaving my carrier too. Right now that is not an option.

Not much love for the Vibrant? This Smartphone is amazing compared to G1, Moto Cliq, Mytouch3g I owned. Not to count my blackberry 8330 and 8900.
The only other phone I liked this much was my Centro.
I am willing to be patience and see what improvement Froyo does to this device because it made my Mytouch3g better.

When I first got this phone I was a hater. I really missed my MyTouch Slide's keyboard and flawless GPS. It was also noticeably quicker. However, as time went on I got more and more used to not having a keyboard.
I really saw the beauty of this phone when I started college a week ago. I could read the screen in broad daylight perfectly! When I wasn't in school this wasn't a huge issue for me. When I'm at school walking from class to class I don't have much time to sit around, squint, and look for shade. I can read this thing on the go with perfect clarity. The MyTouch Slide was IMPOSSIBLE to see in broad day light.
My phone is rooted, overclocked at 1.2Ghz, bloatware removed, several games and apps installed and I LOVE IT! This phone is such a power house. It's the most powerful and technologically advanced phone on the market. No other android phone will have a screen as good as the Galaxy S's for a while. And when they do, the next Galaxy S phone will have Ultra Amoled which features indestructible glass and dust/smear resistant. I'm even hearing that the phone can run stable at 1.3Ghz! If we get a kernel for that this phone will last me LOOOOOONG time!
When 2.2 arrives the phone will have better battery life and quicker response for touchwiz users. I use ADW and all lag is pretty much gone. However, the battery does leave a bit to be desired. I'll be sitting there with my phone just browing the web and it'll go from full charge to 90% in 15 minutes. It might be the fact running at 1.2Ghz drains the battery a lot, but yeah it does drain fast sometimes. The good thing is when my screen is off the CPU clocks down to 600Mhz, it will literally not loose a single % of charge for hours if I have the screen off.
The GPS doesn't work on stock rom which is a shame. I actually flashed a custom rom and the GPS worked fine but I liked the stock rom better.
All in all, if you can't appreciate the hardware of this phone I'd recommend getting a G2.

I can appreciate the hardware thats what attracted me in the first place. You and a lot of users are very advanced in your programing abilities and desires to do so. It is just as I type this my phone just crashed because of the email client. Third crash today. I do hope you all are correct in saying be patient and wait for the update. Thanks for listening.

No seriously. What's the downside to having the network connection box checked? Battery life will suffer? I noticed that turning it on does not turn on wi-fi.

Shh... You are not allowed to say "my GPS works" to any degree, with or without wireless networks checked, especially "flawlessly." The naysayers will be all over you asking for screenshots and proof and attempting to discredit your comments maybe even escalate to personal attacks... After all, it can't be true.
I will be glad when the GPS issue is resolved for everyone. It is a big issue for some and it should be fixed. This is a flagship device and should work for everyone.
I am a firm believer that whatever device is released, regardless of how well it performs, someone in some forum will find a host of issues to complain about. And I'm not saying that there aren't legitimate issues with this device. There are issues with every device on the market - there is no perfect phone.
