Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Apps etc I made a backup with titanium backup and restored them. Contacts are synced to google, so they came back.. I lost SMSs and call logs, which I don't really care about anyway!

Yes, I flashed JM2, then flashed the sdcard fix kernel, then applied the fix. Everything working great! You have to manually add the APN information.

Can we update officially through kies once we flashed JM2 ROM? I am thinking to flash these unofficial or beta ROMs as m tired of these lags and black screens on SGS.

^^ No one knows for sure yet! But you will be able to flash official firmware via odin!

Thanx for the reply. I think i ll flash this JM2 once i get time from my office. BTW y samsung is not releasing these firmwares officially if these are working great?

^^ These are beta firmware.. I guess they will release once they are convinced its OK for general public consumption :)

i hope samsung releases firmware (including froyo) in all the areas simultaneously. I hate when companies ignore asia and release firmware in other parts earlier.

so after this flash can u see the 512 MB ram being addressed by SGS or is it only 256 MB like before ?

and any new addition in app or widget you saw after flash ? as this is europian ROM, does the android market showing paid apps too now after flash ?

The phone does address 512MB ram from the start! Only 326 out of that is usable.. There is a new talk manager app and widget. And no, android market does not show paid apps..

Dnt really noe wether gprs is workin or not...dnt realy care..wifi seems to be workin...
i would reccomend dis 2 every1...
its seriously much faster dan our stock firmware..
nd kalpik has done da sd card fix but idnt tink its really needed...
for backup of my apps nd data..i used my backup pro...
lost da contacts though as i havnt registered for market as yet..

^^ You won't know how much difference the sdcard fix makes, until you try it yourself! Its like a drug for the phone! Once you do it, you won't go back! :P

guys im tryng to flash the JM2 but my lappy is not recogizing my phone in downloading mode. any suggestions plz?

Edit: Done!!! i reinstalled the kies. flashed the JM2.

But then kalpik, do apps start installing on that external sd card?
what happens when say JM3 comes out and we reflash, does the sd card fix stay?

The app data is shifted to the sdcard, not the apps themselves! You will have to re-do the sdcard fix every time you flash a new firmware..

Yep! I'm using a 2GB card myself!

But kalpik i have read on the forums that because of this fix sometimes "insufficient memory" errors are encountered during the installation of apps from market. Is it true?
JM2 is indeed a fast ROM. there are few changes though. Like now we can choose type of networks from a radio options in the settings,WiFi signals are better, now we dont have to restart the phone to apply the fonts,Market app is not lagging too much,Samsung 3*4 keypad doesnt lag.I like the task manager included.

Also anyone knows what is "personal data" in the RAM section of task manager?

I have found one bug so far in this JM2 ROM (atleast its happening to me).
Whenever i try to select "Default contact number" in contacts application, it just force closes upon saving. But i am happy with speed of this ROM.

I have not encountered any such problem. But yeah, I did not do the steps to fix the market problems

Happens to me too, but just for one contact! Why don't you try with other contacts and see?

I have a request. Can someone who is on the stock, unrooted rom post a full nandroid backup of it? It would help me a lot!

Thanks!

Steps to do a nandroid backup:

1. Download clockwordmod recovery from here: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.4-galaxys.zip
2. Rename it to "update.zip" and put it on your internal SD card.. Don't put it inside any folder.
3. Open the battery cover, then go to settings -> privacy -> factory reset. Reset your phone.
4. The phone will reboot, wipe all caches and then it will reboot again. After it wipes cache and reboots again, don't let the phone boot up, remove battery.
5. Put the battery back in, then boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume UP + Home + Power button simultaneously.
6. When in recovery, use volume keys to navigate to "Apply update.zip". Press home button. Your phone will now boot into clockworkmod recovery.
7. Use the volume keys to navigate to nandroid. Use the back soft button to select. Then chose backup, and backup your ROM.
8. It will take a few minutes to backup, then phone will reboot.
9. You will now be able to see a clockworkmod folder in your internal sdcard. Please zip this folder and upload it somewhere.
10. I will be eternally grateful if you do this for me :D

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! This is totally safe and it will help you too once you decide to mod your phone :)

^^ OK, makes sense.. Almost all of my contacts have emails.. The one which was crashing did not have any..
