Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

let me ask here again ... anyone use any app to access this forum site on your phone ? I use to use tapatalk but its not accessing this forum now...so any app apart from browser ?

Thats really great man. I appreciate your enthusiasm for trying and learning new things. Keep it up dude.
Thanks mate....but we are bounded coz we are not Linux.
Anyway... I have BSNL Broadband with Nokia Siemens Modem Type 1 (Model C2110)...I need a working internet connection on my phone. One of our buddies suggested to go for wi-fi router....I need a detail instruction about it.

That IMEI means that your phone is in lockdown mode, as the IMEI partition has got corrupted. Don't ask me how, cause I'm not sure.

Anyway, you *may* be able to restore your original IMEI by having a look here: COMPLETE IMEI RESTORE HOW-TO

To all others who are messing with Odin/rooting etc, as a precautionary measure, PLEASE PLEASE backup your /efs partition using the following methods:

Code:
su
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
and

Code:
su
cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
This will come handy if you ever face IMEI corruption.

Thanx for this usefull post. I have been following a thread regarding this on XDA. You might also be reading that.
I came to know that this above method didnt worked for SGS. SGS uses some more files other than "/efs/nv_data.bin" file also. This IMEI thing works differently than galaxy spica. The guy who created this above method was unable to put original IMEI back on SGS.
Now the thread on XDA has been cleared by the moderator. So i might have missed something.
How to restore imei - xda-developers

PLease correct me if i am wrong.

But i really pray that this method somehow get to work on SGS.

Buddy I think as with Type 1 model you cant setup a wi-fi connection, you can purchase any wifi router (Netgear or D link). Then just plug back the data cable into your router. thats it.
I suggest go for netgear router. It detects and setup the connection automatically. I am using netgear's WGR614V9 model. It will cost around 1300/-.

Either you can tell BSNL guys to upgrade your modem to type 2 or type 4.
Although type 2 is sufficient.

Thanks Nick...you mean the cable which is connected to my modem...I will connect that to the wifi router and done ? So simple :)

Check the option "Debug En" just below "Dump". then you ll see "clear EFS".
Yes...it's there !!!!

Does type 2 modem have inbuilt wifi ?

Yup type 2 comes with wifi. And a separate router is alwaz better than creating access point and bridge through lappy. You can setup and monitor ur network well through router.

the cable which goes into your PC lan port needs to be attached to Router instead of PC. Thats it. Netgear has the option to detect and setup everything automatically. But for Dlink you might have to setup manually.

so can you paste a screenshot of ODIN with items checked and uncheked the best config to flash without going any wrong ...

Dont check options other than shown above.
Check the "re-partition" option only if you want to flash from start or if you want to clean up evrything in your internal storage (1.87 gb partition). Basically phone has to be re partitioned using pit files according to the firmwares. I dont know much about it. I am just saying what i have read in other forums.i might be wrong though.

Also never select "re-partition" if you are flashing only one file (CSC or PDA or MODEM). It might not work correctly.Since re-partition will erase everything.
Experts please correct me if i am wrong.

^^ Actually you should not check anything apart from re-partition, PIT file, PDA, PHONE, CSC.

And you can safely select re-partition as long as there is correct PIT file, nothing wrong with that.

Regarding the IMEI problem, yes I was following that, and a few other threads on XDA/Samdroid regarding the same problem. If you do backup your /efs, you can restore your IMEI, I have confirmation that people were able to do that on their SGS after a corrupted /efs. So again, I urge everyone to backup their /efs. Again, this is a precautionary measure, cause your /efs shouldn't corrupt on its own :)

so the /efs is a separate partition on internal memory which stores a file with IMIE no ?

and can you also give us steps how to backup and restore this ... thanks

Hey nick,
I have a type II bsnl wifi modem, however, I am unable to connect through my fone. My fone detects the wifi network but does not connect to it, although I can connect through my laptop.

Hey all, finally found some time to go buy a phone and it turned out to be Galaxy. This thread has been so informative, and thumbs up to you. It turns out I have a question already.
Am worried that the 3G bands 900/1900/2100 would do me little use if I go to the US where 850 and 1700 are important bands. Even our iPhone sports the 850 Is there anything that can be done about it? (I assumed it's hardware, but I also read it could be tweaked but there's no clear picture)

... Still waiting for it to charge up to 100%!
