Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

After screwing up my install(JM2) with the one-click lag fix...i was forced to reflash. Tried the DDJG4 and it went fine. Then I applied the the one-click lag fix...the phone now screams!

I have to resetup all my apps etc...but it is worth it. Audio also seems to be better.

yes...yes...hw do u know???
That IMEI means that your phone is in lockdown mode, as the IMEI partition has got corrupted. Don't ask me how, cause I'm not sure.

Anyway, you *may* be able to restore your original IMEI by having a look here: COMPLETE IMEI RESTORE HOW-TO

To all others who are messing with Odin/rooting etc, as a precautionary measure, PLEASE PLEASE backup your /efs partition using the following methods:

Code:
su
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs

and

Code:
su
cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img

This will come handy if you ever face IMEI corruption.

hey kalpik, thanks for the info on curropt imie...do you use any app to access this forum on your phone ? I use to use tapatalk but its not connecting to this forum, any suggestion how to access this on phone without opening a phone browser ... any one pls ...

Recovery mode is working in JG4. You can use "update.zip" method for applying the fix. OR wait till "tayatuma" release his v2 fix (based on RyanZA's v2.1).

This is a security risk. IMEI is supposed to be unique equipment identifier and not easily changeable. How come it can be "restored"? Ideally this should be etched in non programmable h/w. What if somebody else restores it to another phone. Then you can be arrested if that guy carries out some illegal activities with the copied IMEI phone.

Please don't call me "Sir" :P
Sooo much knowledge you have it comes form my heart mate :)

Have you applied any lag fix yet?
Yes I did it on tuesday (not the update.zip..it's from pc...where you did comment about loop and directory structure..but due to lack of internet connection I couldn't score my mobile). Anyway...to go for some R&D about backup I first unlagfixed that yesterday. I think it would be better if you fix that loop and directory problem and reupload it :)

Thank a lot once again for the IMEI backup procedure....how scary and complicated problem is facing justsimple1 :(

Let me be honest with you, there are sooo many lagfixes around at the moment with sooo many versions for each, I think it's best if you reflash via odin and start afresh if you wanna try another one :)

Bro ! don't make comparison on my rom with rom fixed with lagfix. That's normal you have better result. I publish a stock rom if you want to have a lagfix use mine or other's.

I do not recommend using ext2 lagfix, battery draine is heavy, IO on nand is heavy .... EXT2 Filesystem is really not safe !!!!

what he say is true. ext2 file system on a NAND is lika time bomb. EXT2 is not made for NAND. your nand will die in a couple of months.

Its really not safe. But again, its faster. oh wells.

i got dis from xda...
is dis true??????

That's true....I already reflashed today evening after those experiments :)
And surely if any lagfix is to use I will do it asking you (this time also I applied that because you suggested)...cause I don't understand how those codes work internally.

@Kalpik:
justsimple1 says "rooted the phone but after some days of rooting my phone doesnt show any network". If he would flash the stock DDJG4 and act like he doesn't know anything about how it happend and express some anger for this harassment....then what the service center would say ???

Buddy i think if he flash DDJG4 again then service centre guys will hardly have any chance of knowing that he had root his phone. I dont think they have any method of determining other than seeing the baseband and other versions.

@kalpik :
Is there any way to determine?

Yes...I also thought like that....let's see what Kalpik says....
BTW Nick...I have successfully backed up everything mate :) Stumbled down several times....at last succeeded :)

^^
Didn't saw your last post before posting :P
Titanium Backup doesn't work and freezes if we dont change "App processing mode". But after those tweaks it's awesome....it has user and system filter and the backup you must take is highlighted with green (if done manually without the batch operation).

Thats really great man. I appreciate your enthusiasm for trying and learning new things. Keep it up dude.

You are right. Flashing is not the solution.Its really sad.
@All
Do not select "Debug/EFS clear" option in odin while flashing. I have read in other forums that this might be the cause for this. So dont check any option untill you are sure what it does.
