Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

I have upgraded to the European version as per the instructions provided by Navaneeth and the phone has surely become fast. All the phone settings and all my applications were automatically updated and nothing was lost. Only issue that I am facing currently is that the phone's battery icon is not working as expected and show a reduction only when 20% of the battery is gone down, basically in the previous version there were 10 bars which now seem to have reduced to 5 bars. This gives very wrong picture of the battery.

Regards,
Kailash

As I have posted before, don't bother with official Froyo from Samsung. Their firmware sucks anyway.

Flash custom ROM ones, they are better.

Reflash back to Eclair using ODIN, then update to froyo again. This will fix it.

Remember, never make any changes to the firmware without removing lagfix first.

Thanks for your response.

due to busy day not able to update.
i have hard reset the SGS.
i took the option reset, all data will be wiped.

surprisingly the phone started working once i did the reset.
the most important part is, it booted with Froyo and not with Eclair. now the phone worked fine and getting a feeling the phone is faster than before.

all contacts sms, and all apps are gone, but all the pictures music and movies are still there in the phone.

so now i am happy.

i ma sure the Indian version will start appearing any time soon.
Indian is scheduled after Middle east.

all the best folks.

i have one doubt
when i check my phone it shows the below

Firmware 2.2
Baseband I9000jxjpe
kernal 2.6.32.9 root@SE-S606 #91
build froyo.jpjpG

in the kernal why it is mentioned root@SE-S606 #91?

i never rooted my phone.

can anybody explain this.

cheers for the support

That's good to know. I am surprised that it fixed it though.... But I have read somewhere that the Galaxy S actually has the ability to reformat its own partition. (I don't have the technical know-how to fully understand that post though.)

Been using Doc JPO for a long time. No bugs. JPO is an official Froyo rom. Besides, most custom roms are going to be more stable than any plain official roms.

I need help. I recently purchased Galaxy S. I installed Kies on my PC with Windows XP as operating system. I read here that Kies has an update issued by Samsung. So I
tried to update my Kies last night. The update process went on for some time and it then reported an error. I closed the application. To my horror I found that my windows has been corrupted. It reported one file hal.dll misisng. I somehow copie sthat file only to find another file ntkrnl*.exe missing as reported. I suspect Kies has corrupted my OS. Is there any solution ?

Try system restore on your pc to a back date.

Start-> Program -> Accessories->System tools-> System restore.

Chose a back date and try restore.

heh, that's putting it hmmm rather strongly but in general i'd agree with the sentiments. :) well when i bought the sgs i got a shiny four inch screen and hardly anything else. if i care enough i can probably prepare a long list of things that are wrong with this phone/OS but to put it simply i am going back to my E71 and probably get an E7 later on depending on feedback. at any rate no more samsung... :)

hi there i am new to flashing android roms..so i have a question.
sometime back i heard that people flashing firmwares of european region were facing some probs like their product code and IMEI's were messed up then to avoid that they had to backup /efs folder..do i need to that thing.
i have already done the clockwork recovery mod...need ur help quick cause i am thinking of flashing this rom JPA/JPD tonight ...thanks..

Bro i can feel your disappointment, but trust me i really like sgs.

2 days back i upgraded to official froyo ( middle east) it works better faster and lot of improvements. you wont be able to list things but when you start using you will notice many minor tweaks has been done whcih make very easy and good to use.

i have and still using E71 along with sgs. E71 is a better phone than E72. i have used E72 for 2 weeks and went back to E71.

E72 is bit faster than E71, but you will get frustrated after sometime.

my suggestion is either get custom froyo or wait till 1-2 weeks time you should definitly get official update. india should get this month itself as per sgs schedule.

i cannot imagine going back to normal screen after using such a great tocuh screen.

You have two choice. Either copy the efs folder to your sdcard directly using a file manager (root explorer, EStrong file manager, Astro, etc.), or pull it to your computer using adb commands. (Kalpik prefers to extract the efs folder as a compressed file instead. No idea why.)

thanks for the thought :) but i think i am done with sgs. if anyone in chennai wants a three months old SGS, do PM me. upgraded to JG4 through KIES, about nine months warranty still left, with all original accessories and bill. expecting 23k...

After much deliberation, finally decided to try out doc's 8.1 jp5...works ok. Doesn't feel that fast, as my previous setup.

I'd like to apply the voodoo colour fix and also have the option of adjusting the brightness using notification bar. Can anyone guide me?

Because files and folders permission can be preserved. Copy&paste will strip out the permission... I think.

You have automatic brightness setting turned on. To adjust brightness using notification bar, turn that option off.

That IMEI means that your phone is in lockdown mode, as the IMEI partition has got corrupted. Don't ask me how, cause I'm not sure.

Anyway, you *may* be able to restore your original IMEI by having a look here: COMPLETE IMEI RESTORE HOW-TO

To all others who are messing with Odin/rooting etc, as a precautionary measure, PLEASE PLEASE backup your /efs partition using the following methods:

Code:
su
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs

and

Code:
su
cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img

This will come handy if you ever face IMEI corruption.

hi kalpik..as m new to linux to can you please explain these commands that you gave to backup the /efs folder..i mean are they to be used one after other?? and once the backup is created in case of a corruption do i just need to copy and paste the backup folder to its original place.?

Did you use any lagfix such as advanced ext4? Doc reports that he doesn't need any lagfix, I do.

Also, try using Autokiller as well.

Geez..so silly of me, it worked :). Thanks.

I have applied advanced ext4 plus using autokiller with settings 70,80,90..what are yours? Also, any idea how to get the voodoo colour fix...?
