where is it available in bangalore?? i called sangeetha mobiles and they told me it'll be released next week.Pls reply

Anyone out in Bangalore can get the Galaxy S from Channel 9. Look it up on Ask or Google. Available for flat 28,000/- which is brilliant in my opinion.

Like i said, for contacts which we sync with google, there is no option for setting ringtone but for the ones which we create on phone directly there is option, so there is a problem with contacts synced from google....

No way I think. Coz I've every contact synced from google in my N1. And every contact have that ringtone option. May be problem with touchwiz UI. Or there may be another way. Just look around in phone.

I got Galaxy S from store on Outer Ring Road for 27.5K last Friday. The shop owner quoted 29K and after some bargain, settled for 27.5K. Got teh phone in a sealed box with warranty and printd bill. It was quite surprising to find this phone in small store as this was not available in big store like Pai, Staples, Sangeetha..

I was planning to buy an Andriod phone and was doing research since last 2 months. Initally I was inclined towards Xperia X10, but the older Android version (1.6) on it was a no-no. I waited for HTC to launch Desire which is yet to happen. Galaxy S was on my mind, but for the phone with such specs, I was expecting > 32K price tag. When i learned the price, I wasted no time in buying one.
The box came with Phone, 1500mAH battery, microAB USB PC cable, stereo headset with mic, leather pouch, instruction booklet, microAB charger.

Initail feedback about the phone:
1) The Super AMOLED display is stunning ! Nothing else that i've seen comes close to it. The black is "perfect black". The biggest "WOW" factor for this phone, in my opinion.
2) Lag free and a very responsive operation of the phone.
2) I was expecting a 8GB version for this price, but I got a 16GB version.
3) I installed Samsung PC Share Manager software app on PC and now my complete media library is accessible trhough phone. No need to install anything on the phone for this. Though if u add the media to the share list in PC, then the app build the while list again consuming some time.
4) This is in initial stage, but seems like I'm getting better reception at my house with this phone compared to my previous HTC P3400. No dropped calls yet. Time will tell if this is indeed the case. I have Airtel subscription.

The downsides:
1) Would have loved if the phone had a LED flash. The phone matches or beats iPhone4 on almost all aspects expect this one.
2) i tried installing my external microSD card (2GB) jsut to see if it works. The phone deos not mount the card. I'll try to format externally and retry.
3) The back cover could have been mae with metal. I hope the plastic is durable and can withstands drops. I guess Samsung wanted to keep the weight down.
4) Samsung Kies PC app (for PC sync) is not bundled (~130MB) and has to be dowloaded. i installed but I don't find it very useful.
5) Would have been better if there was a dedicated button for operatiing phone (green/red sort of thing). One has to go through few taps before making calls. But I guess it is not part tof Android Handset specification, so cannot complain about it.

Apps I'm desperately looking for Android:
1) Mobile banking app for Citibank. Such an app exists for other platfroms.
2) A app that can allow browse TATA SKY program guide and let select recording options. Such an app exists for other platforms.

And of course the Froyo 2.2 update..

Accessories I'm looking for:
1) Home dock ( its shown in online portal).
2) Scratch guard
3) TV out cable whcih goes in 3.5mm jack.

hey fabler, what kernel version is ur nexus one ? and does it acess the full 512 MB ram of the device

Mine running kernel version 2.6.32.9-27227. It's a FRF91 build of android 2.2 a.k.a froyo. I don't know how to check whether it uses fully 512MB of ram or not. But sources on internet says that it does. If you tell me how to see that I will check that out and post it here.

if you have advance task manager , it shows there ...

:( .. I don't have advance task manager installed on my N1. And no internet connection available to my mobile right now... I will install it when I get home and then I will post the statistics here..

Hey, so the 2.2 update is not out on the SGS, yet?
I thought it was. Someone please clarify.

android 2.2 a.k.a froyo is only available for nexus one right now.. Will be available to droid and droid X and some sense UI running HTC phones soon (may be in 3-4 weeks). Don't know when it's coming to SGS. But there is always an option of rooting the phone and install custom ROMS... But you'll have to sacrifice of touchwiz UI.
