Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Could you please elaborate?
I was able to restore all the apps/data from my previous firmware, using the titanium_fix.txt I got from Doc's Froyo page.

So, since from now on , Samsung (hopefully), is going to follow the same process (location for apps , xml files), I won't face any issues , when restoring rite ?
(ie, if I wipe and install Doc's 4.0 ROM and then try restoring apps, I don't need to apply the titanium fix or should I????)
 
All i can say about current 1.5 update is CRAP..total crap.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2. Here is the bug list.

1. Login to FB from PC and open chat. Now click on "Go Offline". Now open FB app on phone and open CHAT section. Your friend list will not load even after waiting for 30 min on a 1 mbps wifi connection.

2. CHAT UI is simply crap. Now we have 3 groupings , "Active Conversations" , "Available" and "Idle". We don't need grouping at all simply show a single list with GREEN color on right for Active(not idle) and Orange for Inactive like we have in Gtalk for Android.
Also , if we are chatting with any friend , Just make same UI change in the Single Main list to indicate it ass Active chat.
In-short, just mimic what Gtalk for Andorid app does. Keep It Simple Guys.

3. CHAT is not working and need proper testing. try this.
Login to FB from PC , start Chat. Now hit "Go Offline". next, open FB app in mobile and enter chat section, Your Chat friend list will never ever load friends. it will simply show "Loading......"

4. Sound notification for Chat is not working. I am 200% sure that i have set a tone to notify me of incoming chat.

5. When i enter FB app on Phone , give is option to auto-login to chat or not. and notify us about same.

6. if we enter chat and return to home screen, i get logged out. WTF is this ? I am supposed to be logged in chat.

7. PUSH notifications : All i can say is "WTF" !!!!!
Reason: PUSH on iPhone and BB is REAL INSTANT. And if its TRUE Push , why do we see "Refresh Interval" option in Settings section ? If its PURE PUSH , we don't need this at all. If its for those running OS < 2.2 then fine.. However , if i choose ""Refresh Interval" at xx hours and set "Notifications to Active" and ticked all below options , I am still not receiving any PUSH notifications when i am on home screen. However when i enter the app , i get it. Is this you call PUSH ?

Dear Facebook, Go and test your app before you release it to the masses.
 
My contact list doesnt show all the alphabets on the right hand side which is used for scrolling directly to contacts starting with a particular alphabet. for example, i see M, N and then P, similarly, S and V, but no T or U!!! This is happening after upgrading to froyo. Any thoughts anyone?

A. Yes, if you are on windows. rename to "update". Windows hides the .zip extension filename. If you do this, it will appear as update.zip (not update.zip.zip) in your phone when you open with filemanager - after you copied it to /sdcard folder on the phone.

Doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.

Switch off the phone, and go to recovery mode. Apply update.zip twice. You'll find an option to delete battery stats in CWM features options menu I think. Tip: Press "Back" button to select.


B. Alternatively, there's an app called SGS Tools. Open it, choose "Apply script", click on "delete_batterystats_.q.txt". Haven't tried this but it should work.

I am on Doc's 4.0 rom wipe, and are able to restore all the user apps by TB without titanium fix.

Samsung made crappy firmwares on a superb hardware (minus gps, lag, build quality). If you feel adventurous, try and flash Doc's ROM in the xda-dev elopers forum.

I am well aware that its the fastest ROM as of now.. And I also know why.. I can probably achieve the same speed on previous ROMs if I do the hack Samsung did.. Its just that its the non-standard way of doing things, and Samsung's implementation is not without flaws.. I've researched a LOT on this ROM, so I know what I'm talking about.. I've also been in touch with Titanium Backup's dev concerning this ROM.. I'm personally waiting for Samsung to release a newer ROM, so I can do some comparisons..

I still maintain.. As of now, if you value your app data, hold off installing this ROM.. If app data is not important, go ahead, knock yourself out ;)

Once again, could you please tell me why? Wouldn't the data restoration be possible if you apply the titanium fix? (like what I did and it has worked; thanks :) )..

And could you please tell me what are the flaws in Samsung's implementation?

In other news, expect a Gingerbread port for the Galaxy S within a few days :D
 
Guys,
did anybody manage to work around the the email notification problem on the stock email app? notifications on gmail is perfectly fine, however anything else i configure(ie., hotmail or corporate) dont give notifications (neither the status bar nor the ringtone)

not to mention, the social hub or the "accounts and sync> add account" menu doesnt even have an option to configure mails besides facebook, gmail and twitter! did anybody figure out a way around this?

any help would appreciated.
 
Guys Check out the 'Snap N Go' app from Samsung market...Awesome app guys
U have to just take a snap from SGS of any file u want to transfer from ur pc and done....the file gets transfered thru wifi....Best samsung app

anxiously waiting to see gingerbread 2.3 on sgs.
Heard 2.3 source code is available to download.

expecting a very slick and trouble free Rom from you guys.
i guess sgs should also work very similar to nexus S.

do you really thing the hard disk make a big difference in performance between them?

I'm still on v5.01 with JPP modem. No lagfix, all tweaks enabled, BLN on. Gives me 200kbps download speed on EDGE in bangalore area with JPP modem. 10%drain over 6 hours idle with BLN light switched on (1%/hour with the light is not on). Will test with JPX later. Very happy with this.

v7 is being tested by beta testers. I think I'll wait until Doc officially releases V7!

Just some advice, please don't use *any* other modem in JPX.. There are bound to be incompatibilities as Samsung changed the RIL in JPU/JPX..

Use only either JPU or JPX modem (I'd recommend JPX).

What is the significance of using other modem other than JPU/JPX? I haven't encountered any problems yet. JPU kernel + JPP modem has been great for me.

Guys anybody facing a problem of notification bar getting stuck after froyo update ? When i try to pull it down only 10% of the bar rolls and stops.
only a restart will solve this problem.. any idea whats causing this?

i'm not a tech guy.

my phone shows (bought sgs from dubai - so it might be african or middle east version)

have official froyo

PDA-i9000jpjpg
phone-i9000jxjpe
csc-i9000ojpjpf
build info-2010.11

i am also used z4rooting and rooted the phone
also using oneclicklagfix 2.3.0 made by ryanza

my phone is performs better and fast.
if i use quadrant std i get my rating roughly between 1900-2050.

do you suggest to use

rom in my phone, do you think it will be a nice idea or i shoul dwait for 2.3 version rom from you guys.

also noticed when my edge is on or bluetooth is own my battery drains pretty fast means very fast. my phone wont last 8 hours.

but when i am not using Bluetooth or edge data connection or any type of connectivity and few calls my phone showed 50% plus battery after use of 2 days and 4 hours. really surprised by this. how come these edge data connection and bluetooth eats up so much of my battery?

also how ot check the modem version of my phone.
whether it is V5, V6 or V7?

Hi....i am from Bangalore, India.....I recently updated my phone with Kies from "DDJG4" version to Froyo update. During update (after about an hour or so), there was some problem and kies displayed the msg that update was unsuccesfull. Without disconnecting the cable, i restarted the update process and completed it sucessfully. Soon after the update, i noticed my phone has infact become slow, with frequent hanging... i think the update process is not completed sucessfully. Any ideas what should i do next. Can i revert to original version and update my phone again! Note i am not so tech savy! I know a little...if any one can help me in simple language..i will be thankful for them!!

Take a backup of ur app data and do a factory reset.
 
The HTC Desire HD is available now for an attractive price of 27k approx, who all SGS owner gonna grab it ... well I am one of them, will get it tomorrow :)

frankly sick of SGS , not gonna have samsung phone again..
