Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

How do you people clean your Galaxy S?

I just got my Gadgetshieldz delivered and I plan to install the back cover part of it once I can get rid of the greasy back.

Have to hold up the installation of the screen part because my screen has like a few dead pixels (really small), and I wrote to sammy. They gave me a reply, which was for the most part automated except for what I figured were two service center addresses (in chennai ofc). It's really small and I can't take a picture of it because of the screen itself.

Another question I have. I ruined my C: with some partitioning (tried to reduce size) and had to reinstall windows. I have Kies on my D: and I really don't want to go through another tormenting experience of installing kies, so can someone please share their kies registry entry? :)

which mail id you mailed to sammy ?

Pardon my inaccuracy. It's actually the form in their site, and I recommend you use it just like you'd use email. They usually write back to you within 48 hours, and occasionally provide human answers.

On that note, did anyone try the "Chat" option on their support page?

How do you people clean your Galaxy S?

I ordered an "Amzer ultra clear screen guard " which removes fingerprints in a jiffy and truly is ultra clear ... cost me around 400 for 2 ...

As for the "greasy back" i got myself a silicone/plastic case by capdase ... its very thin and provides a good solid grip ...

Someone please help me...

I accidentally flashed on Odin with the "Clear EFS" box checked, and the phone boots up and has a signal... I can make phone calls, but it cannot connect to any kind of data service. Wifi still works, but I cannot use 3G data AT ALL.

I've tried every kind of reset, and every kind of re-activation there is... Does anyone have any ideas???

Buddy are you sure that you have entered the APN settings manually? Since your SIM is working fine (you are able to make and recieve calls), i think your efs folder and files are ok. Just check your imei number. If its the original one than everything is fine. Then Just check your APN settings.
When you check "Clear EFS" in the odin, your phone checks and recreates the efs folder files (nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5) from the back up files. So lets hope that ur efs files are ok.

just check if that app is available thru developer's website. From there you can buy it.

I'm still not able to use KIES.

My SGS lags like sh*t.
Getting pretty annoying now.

Running I9000DDJF3 (stock)

any suggestions? Lagging heavily.

Using LauncherProPlus, then AWD, but it still lags.. yuck!
29k seems so not worth it.

Guess you have to flash using odin then ... the phone works really well with jm6/jm7. Or you can try going to a samsung service center and ask them to update the firmware for you . Im guessing they may oblige you ...

advance task killer also helps in killing many unwanted apps opened in background, do exclude the ones carefully one by one which you need, give it a try once and yeah do update to DDJG4 firmware its far more better than stock JF3

Also, it's disheartening to see that only very few Indians are crying out loud on the internet about the unavailability of paid apps. Most apps would be like 100 or couple? It's certainly not pricey and we don't have to waste our gpu or go down the dark unwarranted alleys to get the s/w ... so please be vocal :)

It's probably my only regret in android so far and it's outrageous :(

I did some searching and this seems to be legit
Why doesn't google bring paid apps to India? i can pay by my international credit card! being doing that for Symbian !! - Android Market Help

Yet, it's not a convincing answer because it's been like that for two years and it's coming from an employee and not a policy maker.

any one who had successfully installed gadgetshield on front pls post some screenshots, I am having hardtime doing it, the screen never becomes ultra clean

Guys i have tried JPC firmware on my SGS. Samsung has done many small updates which are definitely enhancing the functionality. ROM itself is stable than JP2 and JP3.
Music player has small bug as it crashes in "Disc view". Other than that i can say Final froyo ROM will be better than any current ROM.But this ROM still has some hiccups.
Currently now i am back to JM6 (Since I took back up of my /efs, i reverted back my product version as original)
Hi Nick :) how you took backup of your /efs partition and restored it ?......(I have gone through the post by Kalpik (to take backup)....but have you used any easier method ?) Please post a detail tutorial about it. Thanks in advance :)

My phones rooted, and I just checked the /efs folder and it's empty.. this is a bad sign right?

Hi Nick! I have already used Dialler One. My query was about non-availability of this feature in basic software of Galaxy. To recapitulate, I am listing down below all my pending issues once again:

1. When I send a contact as a Name-card using messaging, it goes as a MMS and SMS. Thus, I end up paying Rs. 5 per message and not Rs. 0.10 which I pay for a SMS. Moreover, recipient of the SMS may not have GPRS connectivity on his phone.
2. When someone with a Nokia handset (Symbian OS), sends me a Business Card as SMS, the message is received on my phone as

Hi Sanjg2k1, we all know that when we purchase a laptop we get an Operating System which comes with some bundled softwares. Most often we don't like all of them. For example if there is a bundled Registry Cleaner we may not like that. We install a different one we like. If we get Windows 7 it has inbuilt Firewall and Defender. But most of us use different security applications. For more example Windows has a Defragmenter also. But you will hardly find who (who doesn't have a very little amount of data) uses that. There are many services and applications start automatically when we boot....some of them we don't need and some of them apparently we think that we don't need but they are must to run windows smoothly. AFAIK, Android OS is very smart to control the apps and services as it needs. So, it would be better if we take it like our SGS has an operating system of Android 2.1 with some bundled softwares....the problems you are saying...most of them are the common problems of Android OS. Fortunately, it's highly customizable. If you don't like any default feature you should use 3rd party apps. You can google for your problems....most of the time you will find a solution. *If not* then we have to wait for the OS and the Market apps to be updated or newly developed with the feature I need.

Regarding your 480 characters problem you can use Handcent which has an option for it.
For KIES I also use Windows 7 64bit...but I never had any issue with KIES....if you face problems....go to the previous pages of this thread....you will find the solution.
If I ask why windows (windows 7) sound recorder has the only option to save in .wma format then what will be the answer ? Similarly regarding Daily Briefing the simplest answer will be that the Daily Briefing has not the feature you want :)
Regarding the problem you are facing to import notes...if I ask why an exe file is not supported in Linux...that would be a meaningless question....coz both platforms are different....so file support and file extensions will be different as usual.

9. Why do some applications start running all by themselves though I have not started these applications (like Mybackup Pro, Sprite Backup, Email, Call Recorder Voice Dialler, News Pro, Profile, Daily Briefing etc.)? These apps consume a whole lot of RAM.

Droid Den - Android Guide: Should I Use a Task Killer - Droid Den

I got directed to the above link from a siggie of one of the users in androidforums. Too bad I can't remember who but I trust it should allay your concerns on RAM activity.

The article looks pretty legit to me, especially when it makes the argument to support itself that goes like this -
"Storing a footprint of an application in memory uses exactly the same amount of battery as it would if that section of memory is free. If you continue to open applications, then more of your memory will be used."

However, I do agree with you on one thing. It's fine if you had started those apps, but it is indeed questionable if they start on their own and in this case you'll just have to make sure they're from a trusted source. Your RAM is healthy though.
