Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Hello every one
I am new to Android phone. I had a Nokia 5800 Express Music phone. I transfered all the details to my PC. Now I got this Samsumg Galaxy S Vibrant t959 as gift from my friend in USA. It is unlocked and does accept my Vodafone SIM card. I just want to know how to transfer my contacts and other details from my PC to this new phone? Please help.
Thanks in advence.

See if you export these contacts from your PC to your GMail account. Then you can easily access them from your Galaxy S phone. The other option is to copy them to your SIM from your older phone & then copy them on the Galaxy S (more tedious approach than the former).

The Samsung Apps in Kies is meant for Bada OS phones i.e. Samsung Wave and not for your Galaxy S.

Worse than Eclair.. Virtually unusable without Voodoo..
I have not yet rooted my phone as i am waiting for Froyo. Once done, i will check its performance and then will decide further.

Any remote possibility of having stock froyo on galaxy s ?

Ok, anyone looking to taste some froyo? I packaged Doc's rom with Voodoo, and its amazing! Have a look here: Me, Myself and Technology Blog Archive JP6 De-deodexed and zipaligned ROM for GT-I9000 with Voodoo and 2e recovery!

hey kalpik, you have a lot of experience with applying these lagfixes, can you do a youtube video on how to do it from scratch? It will help a lot of folks out there, including me, I'm still running stock firmware on my SGS. Pls show also how fast the SGS is by running some benchmarks before & after.

In Iphone when we download apps, there is a facility to pause the downloads but the same is not in Android.
anybody have any idea is the same facility is coming to android any time soon. does froyo support this.

There in an issue with the YouTube app - I search and click on a youtube video and then pause it so that it loads; in the mean time if I go to the home screen and bring up youtube again, the video starts to load from the beginning . Is there any workaround for this. I remember reading abt this somewhere but not able to find it now.

hey u can install an app (Galaxy S Tweaker) to ur phone and install voodoo lagfix. Its very simple and u can also remove the lagfix using this if and when u dont want to use it. I tried it n its working very well on my SGS 2.1 stock. Hope this will help you. Using Quadrant Standard my SGS got a benchmark of 876 be4 the lagfix after the lag fix I'm getting 1675.

installation instructions:

or
use the barcode scanner to install this directly from the market the barcode is present in the above mentioned link.

samsung pulled back Froyo Update. Now its due in early November :(

oh tht's sad. I was very excited to be able to finally use froyo on SGS.
I think we have no option but to install the froyo version frm XDA developers or ne other site for tht matter.
I don't understand y Samsung is pulling back the Froyo update.

As you probably know last week Samsung released the official update that takes the I9000 Galaxy S to Android 2.2 for the Scandinavian region. But just as we thought that worldwide availability is a matter of days now, the company pulled the files from it servers.

There is no official statement yet so it's unclear what are the reasons behind this move but unstable behavior seems the most probable reason. A number of users reported that their Galaxy S units became laggy and experienced lots of bugs after the update and if Samsung found the reason to be within their own code, it might have returned it to their developers for some more work.

Another rumor suggests that Samsung planned to release the Galaxy S update to all European devices simultaneously and the Scandinavian version just jumped the gun. That doesn't seem quite so believable though.

At any rate Samsung's UK branch has just confirmed via Twitter that they will be releasing the Galaxy S Froyo update in early November with carrier-specific versions following after that. Let's hope they get everything right this time and there are no more hiccups.

well, I wonder how many of us here are fedup now with these news and not getting us to froyo and ready to give up SGS for Desire HD :) I am one of them ...

samsung has been disappointing with their software yet again ... if desire hd comes out soon it will be a hit I suppose, I would be the first to grab one and give away this crap SGS
