Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

After much deliberation and waiting for official Indian Froyo, I have decided to go for DOC_Kalpik's ROM; but I have a few questions (please note that I am totally new to flashing ROMs and this will be my first attempt.)

1. Which among the 4 would be the best ROM:
BUJP8 v9
XWJPA: V 8
XXJPO: V 8
ADJP5 BareBone .1

2. I am currently on stock Eclair DDJG4, so can I flash the ROM directly without having to worry abt the /system corruption or I will still have to do the fix for the /system corruption?

3. If something goes wrong during flashing or for some reason I want to go back to stock eclair, can I restore back to the rom that I have backed up using ROM Manager?

Bump

Would following these steps void the warranty? I mean does the phone get rooted if I upgrade?

I thought I'd whip up a bit of research before upgrading to the Euro version, which, as I understand is XXJPO. A few bugs (yes all versions have bugs, but I would still like to confirm) that were recorded are in this link:

Official Froyo XXJPO - Bug reports - xda-developers

I'll write down a few of them here:
1) Double capitals on Swype keyboard (Page 1 of link)
2) Some letters still missing down right hand side of phonebook (Page 1 of link)
3) Huge battery consumption even when the phone's idle (Page 3 of link)
4) Music Player abnormalities (Page 3 of link)
5) The "Email" application being rendered useless (other websites)
6) Higher lag than Eclair on unrooted device (other websites)

I would also like to know if the following issues have been addressed:
1) Text editing by moving the cursor using your finger (not the arrow keys on the Swype keyboard)
2) *111# "USSD Code running" - which doesn't display the credit balance if "Mobile Tracker" is switched on
3) Any other issues which have been rectified, or continue to exist?

I couldn't really find more on those while searching, so I thought I'd finally post them.

Thanks for your time and patience :)

:o

Is that the Indian upgrade? What version of Kies? xxx_102? When I try to update it to that it keeps saying "Could not connect to Internet" but my Internet's just fine!

Update: Ok have the latest version of Kies now, but I get the message that I already have the latest version JG4

Heya,

You need the internet connection to link your Android phone to your GMail account(create a new one if you don't already have a GMail ID). I'm not quite sure whether that's a compulsory step or not, I already had a data connection active and it's been a while :)

Also, you can't take full advantage of Android unless you have a data connection. You get pretty good ones at Rs.95/month for 6GB (GPRS - Tata Docomo) , Rs.98/month for 2GB(Vodafone/Idea/Airtel), and now that 3G's round the corner, you could go for a 3G connection.
If you, or a friend, have a WiFi router/laptop, you could use that connection! :)

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on this site. Got this brilliant phone just few days back but am facing some problem with the internet plans and settings provided by Vodafone.
As stated above these plans are GPRS plans which as informed to me by vodafone do not work on Android phones..which i was quite shocked to hear. Is it true?
I hav been suggested Rs499 unlimited internet VMC plan on Vodafone (prepaid) but am unable to get the settings for same. Tried all combinations suggested by Voda....but no good....

Just want to know how u guys activated internet plans....and What plans by which providers in Delhi are best...???

Bro.. There is a 199 (2 GB) Plan that Vodafone Offers in Delhi on Post Paid. One of my friend is using that and is pretty satisfied with that. However Personallly I am on Airtel and am using the 98 (2 GB) plan and i am EXTREMELY satisfied with it. I hardly cross 500 MB limit in a month. So Instead of getting an Unlimited plan initially.. first identify u r usage. And i am sure an average user will not cross 2 GB on the Cellphone (Without Tethering). Hope this was helpful. Otherwise call their Customer Care and ask for their plans. I am sure u will find the one suited for u r usage.

Okies.. I Installed it 2 Days ago. And let me give my personal experience.

1) Lag - After the update - I Wud not call the phone Laggy however I would call it "Stuttery". The apps load very quickly however the phone stutters and its not as smooth as it was on the "Lagfixed Eclair"
2) Battery - First day.. It was AWEFUL. It drained, with almost no usage within 12 hrs. However 2nd and 3rd day it improved significantly (Its 12 Hrs with some Light usage and I its still 60% left). I am still monitoring it.. Will update u more about this one later.
3) Swype - Dont use It.. Dont Care.. As I message in Hinglish so.. Never really bothered to use it.
4) Music App - Didnt find any Abnormal issues till yet apart from a normal Stutter or so.
5) Email - Only Use Gmail.. So Not sure about this either.

Hiccups (in 2.5 Days of Operation) - 2 Force Closes. And 1 Unknown Reboot (Had to Pull the Battery out for that one.. No Ideas what happened )

Overall .. I am okay.. Though I want that stutter to go away. Sometimes it gets on u r nerve.

Hopefully I was helpful.

Firstly.. U will loose all Root Privilages once u upgrade to Froyo via This method.
Secondly. I dont think the warranty will be Void as if anything goes wrong. U can always Go back to the Eclair Rom using the same program.

However I wud STRONGLY recommend u to please check if u r phone can go in the Download/Recovery mode with the 3 Button Combo.. before trying these steps. If not. do a google for "3 Button Fix for Samsung Galaxy S" and read about it.

Has anyone used allshare app?? If yes then could u plzz enlighten me on how to use it??

Excellent App.. I have a PS3 at home. And i use it with that. Basically what it does is.. If u have a Wifi at home. And u hv u r Other devices also connected through the same Wifi. Then u can share media between these devices.

Pre-Requisites - Wifi Connection, Media Server running on u r PC

E.G. (Basic One) U r PC/Lappy has some songs and u want u r Galaxy S to play them for u.
1) Turn on u r media server on u r Lappy, put the songs in a shared folder and share them thru the media server.
2) Connect u r phone to the Same Wifi that u r PC/Lappy is connected to.
3) Turn on the All share app on u r fone and select the option " Play Media From Other Devices on u r Fone"
4) Select the Correct Media Server.. And Select the song from the list..

There are other uses also.. Which are also pretty cool.. but this is a very basic one.

Its a software which u will be running on ur pc. Like PS3 Media server, Or Nero Home media server or the inbuilt media server for windows media player. Or something similar. I mainly use them for wireless streaming on my ps3. But they are very helpful in streaming to and from the galaxy.

Hi, I finally got to update to Doc's BUJP8 v9. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have Voodo brightness or color fix :( .
Is it working for anyone running JUDP8?
After setting the autokiller to aggressive, I am getting reasonably good free memory.(with strict, it was aweful at 66 MB,
usually only around 110 MB even after killing all apps..will have to take a closer look into that, as it is not
fully solved.)

But, the biggest problem I am facing is that when setting the voice recognition language to English(India), it
(finally) recognizes what I speak, but always does a google search. For eg. Navigate to Delhi, would be shown as a
google search. But, when setting to any other English (For eg.English(Generic)), it is working fine, but is not able
to properly understand my language..

PLEASE HELP, guys!!
