Help Samsung galaxy s2.. ARM 9 or ARM 7 processor??

Hi..

Can someone clear this up for me as I'm confused..

I have a uk unbranded (XEU) Samsung galaxy s2 which I got from phones4U And use on the o2 network.. it is unrooted and with latest stock rom.. 2.3.4...

I've had no problems with my phone (touch wood) and absolutely love it but out of curiosity I downloaded quadrant benchmarking app so I could do a benchmark to have a before and after for when we finally get ICS..

Quadrant however indicates that my phone has an ARM 7 processor as did 2 other subsequent system info apps I just downloaded when I thought the GS2 had an ARM 9 processor!??

Am I being stupid and completely Misreading this system info?

Should I be concerned?

My phone is blazingly fast and the quadrant benchmark was just over the 3000 mark but why is it only showing as an ARM 7 processor!??

Many thanks for any info.

Thanks for the info..

Although I also tried the following apps:-

Smart system info.
Android info.

And android system info..

And all 3 also reported that I have an ARMv7 processor Rev 1 ?!

So do all these apps report the processor incorrectly? Or am I misinterpreting the info somehow!?

Also weirdly...

I've never rooted (and my phone was brand new and security sealed) but with apps such as 'androzip' it let's me get up to and copy and paste files, ringtones, startup tones etc from the root directory!?

I assumed I shouldn't be able to do this!?

Weird? Or normal?

Everywhere I've seen also states it has an ARM 9 processor..

It's just all these system info apps that seem to disagree!

Does anyone have a system info app they can try and let me know if it reports it as an ARM 7?

That'll put my mind at ease and we can put it down to dodgy app programming!

:D

Thanks again!

Android System Info, Voltage Control and Network Signal Info show ARM 7.

Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice!

Gentlemen, you're confusing two things; instruction set and MPCore. The CPU in the SGS2 uses the ARMv7 instruction set. The MPCore is Cortex-A9. Cortex A8 and cortex A-15 (as well as Snapdragon Scorpion and Krait) use the ARMv7 instruction set

Many thanks for clearing that up!

Just as long as I haven't been 'diddled'!

:D

While I'm here... Any ideas about my other query about why I can access system, startup ringtones etc without having ever rooted??

...Or is that as it should be too?

Many thanks!!
