Help Samsung galaxy S2 Internal memory + battery drain issue

Slugheady

Lurker
Hi there,

I'm using the samsung galaxy S2 and I'm having internal memory and battery drain issues.

This is the 3rd time I'm having these problems and the only solution I've got is resetting the phone.

I'm getting the internal memory is low error randomly, not even after installing any apps. Whenever this messages start to appear (not always) not very long after my phone will heat up and the battery will barely charge while charging, when I'm not charging the battery will die from 100% to 0% within an hour or two.

vex6b4.png

My storage says that I have 1.97GB of internal memory and that I used 344MB for apps, which should leave about 1.6GB left open. That is also what the bar is indicating, however it says I only have 202MB left, unless there is hidden information I think this is wrong.

My phone isn't filled with apps, I barely have some so that can't be the issue.

If anyone has solution towards this issue, please let me know, I wasn't able to find threads that have been solved with the same issues.

Thanks, Rob

Hello

The first thing you should do is try to recalibrate the battery

1. Turn off your phone.
2. Fully Charge.
3. When getting 100% signal, unplug.
4. Pull out the battery.
5. Wait for 3

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll do the battery recalibrate. However, I don't think that would be the issue since it starts appearing whenever I get the internal memory issues.

Could you link me to somewhere where it'd explain how to reflash my firmware?

Also, I'm only able to recieve one wifi signal when I'm at home (I live on a farm, no neighbors), but when I travel in public places it constantly searches for wifi signals, though that wasn't happening when I got these errors so I don't think that could be the issue either?

Thanks

Hello

Can you tell us what firmware you are currently on, where you are located and who your carrier is, you can also have a look at this thread to see where i am coming from

Which firmware? My carrier is tele2.

My phone is dieing while charging, I recalibrated the battery and charged when it got to 5%, it charged for half an hour and it is now 4%. Rebooting the phone works but the battery dieing randomly appears.

Wifi is off, so is 3G, I seriously have no clue whats happening. The one thing I am sure of is that its connected with the internal memory error.

Please help, thanks in advance.

Hello

If you go to settings / about device you will see which firmware you are currently running on your phone, please post that.

Can you also tell us in which country you are located.

There is also the possibility that the two issues are unrelated and your battery needs replacing but i would try a new firmware first, once you post your details we will be able to advise on the best firmware option

Cheers

Its probably translated to Dutch(the firmware)

Country: The Netherlands
Firmware: one of the following
Baseband versie: I9100XXLPS
Kernelversie: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 dpi@DELL134 #3
Buildnummer: IML 74K.XWLP7

Thats what says about the device.

I hope its just a battery issue, but I hardly doubt it. This is the 3rd time I've had this problem, and two times I managed to solve it by simply reset the phone to fabric settings, both the internal memory and the battery issues got resolved for several months then. Untill now :(

Thanks for helping, I appreciate it.

Hello

This is the official JB release for The Netherlands so you should be fine with it

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: I9100XWLSD_I9100XENLS1_XEN.zip

Then follow this guide

Install I9100XWLSD XEN Netherlands Samsung Galaxy S2 Official 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update - Android ROM Update

Obviously you wont need to download the firmware again or the USB drivers if you already have them installed

If you have any questions then just ask

*EDIT also ensure that the kies service is not running if you have it installed, just stop it through task manager

Cheers

Thanks! Though it looks a bit risky to do? Am I supposed to start by step 2 because I have everything else already installed? I'm not experienced with any of this so forgive my stupidity.

Thanks again, I'll do this when I get home after work today :).

Edit:

After recalibrating the battery it first look liked it didn't work, I charged it while the phone being off one more time, because if I left it on it wouldn't even charge but still use energy. Anyways, I've used it this morning to listen music for about an hour, and its been stand by for about 5 hours now and still 92%.

I'm turning wifi on now, so I'll keep track of it, perhaps the recalibrating did work x]

If you have ODIN installed and have downloaded the firmware then start at step 2, you dont have to do a hard reset but you may have to update some of your apps if they are not compatible with the later firmware

Just make sure the KIES service is not running if you have that installed

Your battery will take a couple of days to "settle" down after recalibrating if you decide to stick with thr firmware you have, the same thing will apply if you flash new firmware but that should get rid of your storage issues

Cheers

Many many many thanks.

I will leave this discussion open for any other people that have these issues. But I'm sorry to say that I did the phone reset thing again, I was going to do this when I got home but my phone started being weird again later on the day. So when I wanted to go home and needed to make some calls bla bla bla you know the story, its 2013 and I couldn't not use my phone for an hour.

Thanks for the effort you put in to this and I'm sure the calibrating worked. I'll be keeping this somewhere just in case it happens again.

Thanks
