Help Samsung Galaxy S2 network lock problem

SandLake

Newbie
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on Vodaphone (UK) contract.

This morning when I pick up my phone I discover it is on 'Emergency Calls only'. Turning off and on, I get asked for 'Enter Network Lock Control Key' but I don't know what this is.

Phoned Vodaphone and they got me to put the sim in another phone (an old Nokia 6300 non-smartphone) and it is working fine.

I put an old working PAYG sim into the SGS2 and it also is working but if I put the original Vodaphone sim into the SGS2 I still get 'Enter Network Lock Control Key'

I can't figure out what the problem is? Is it the phone or the sim?

Itrs the phone purely by process of elimination on what you have posted, what network was the PAYG sim ?

It was a Tesco Mobile sim which was fine. I have tracked down a Vodaphone PAYG sim and it also requires the 'Enter Network Lock Control Key'

Does seem to be a phone issue - but I could just (at a cost) cancel Vodaphone and take out a Tesco Mobile sim-only contract - I had been thinking about doing that anyway in May

It would appear that your phone is locked to O2, Tesco use the O2 network but to confirm try an O2 sim

Did Voda supply the phone ?

You could try this app, download, install and see if gets a code for you

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helroz.galaxysunlock&hl=en

There is also another that has had success but requires root

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode&hl=en

I agree it does 'appear' to be locked to O2 - but how, before today it has never had an O2 sim in it.

The Galaxy_S Unlock app requires root as well and I have always avoided getting into all that

Sorry, didnt check the other app, the reason i ask if Voda supplied the phone is that "unlocks" done via other methods are prone to going awry and the fact that your phone accepts a Tesco sim suggests it was locked to another Network previously.

Obviously if Voda supplied the phone you should get onto them as your now paying for a service you cant access and they should supply an unlock code.

Unfortunately the only things that can possibly help you outside of Voda require root access and although this is relatively simple i can understand your reluctance

Contacted Vodaphone (long story), took it to a Vodaphone shop and they have now sent it off for repair (or replacement) as I had a warranty I didn't know about.
