Help Samsung Galaxy S2 won't charge when indicating it is

Hello all,

I'm having major issues with my newly acquired Galaxy S2 and was wondering if anyone on this forum could help me out.

I plug in my phone and it indicates that it's charging but it just isn't. I've tried different outlets including plugging it to my pc but so far nothing works. Is it possible that my battery suddenly died from one day to the next after only two months of ownership?

Thank you very much in advance for whoever can give me a hand. I certainly appreciate it.

There's a topic on xda that might help.

I seem to recall a similar thing happening to me after I installed a custom rom. I'm guessing you haven't rooted yet though since it's new.

Thank you for the reply. My problem is a tad bit different, though. Unlike the previous poster my phone will barely charge overnight (we're talking maybe 2% over eight hours). Just like in the link you provided me though it does seem as though my phone is still losing some of it's energy even while being plugged in.

This problem started yesterday so I let my phone charge overnight and this morning I had maybe 30minutes of power while my phone was plugged in before it just gave out again.

My guess is that I would do good to just order another battery?

I would try a different battery as it might be the phone that is at fault, if one of your mates has a SG2 try there battery instead of buying a new battery to find out its the phone.

Few hours later and now the phone's battery is completely dead and plugging the phone looks to be futile. It doesn't even show the battery+yellow triangle image anymore. This blows.

If anyone knows what the deal is here please go ahead.

Sounds like a problem with the usb port. It could be either damaged or just dirty. I guess since it's off there's no easy way to tell that, but try giving the usb a good clean with a toothbrush (make sure it's not wet!) and re-trying the charge.

I had the exact same problem with my S2, after trying the dry toothbrush it is now charging fine.
