Help Samsung Galaxy S4 Active broken

Hey guys. I have an S4 Active that I dropped about 2 weeks ago. It stopped charging. Here's the thing.. I took it to the repair shop, the guy said it looks like there's corrosion in the phone (water damage). This phone has never been dropped into water, ever. I'm confused as to what he's talking about. He says, "When you take off the back of the phone, you can see white marks. Thus, corrosion." I said, Well.. I've taken off the back entirely and have not seen what you're talking about. Anyway, he fixed a part in the back that came loose. I can't remember the name of it. So, the phone starts charging again. So I think. The battery says it's being charged, but it's actually being drained. It's not charging.

Bring it back in the same day. He says it needs a new USB charger port. Okay, cool. Take my money and fix it. A few days later, part comes in, bring phone in.. few hours later, he states he cannot fix it. He says the USB charger port isn't fitting in the phone and it's not connecting. The top left part that connects to the actual phone. Wrong part? I'm not sure.. So, I bought an extra battery to see if I could just use it temporarily while using my older S4 to charge it. That lasted for a day and the other S4 completely stopped charging. Not sure if I damaged the battery while putting it into the Active? The older S4 has a cracked screen. Will turn on but will not show picture.

Anyway, I don't know if I'm able to just part out the phone, or if I should just buy a USB charger port off of ebay and replace it myself. Which is actually very easy to do. I have personal information on the Active, so I don't want to sell it for parts without being able to wipe it first. Suggestions?
