Help Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop reboot loop

Hi!
I am new in this forum and I wanto to say hello to everybody!
First of all sorry for my english that may be poor and incorrect...
This morming I updated my Samsung Galaxy S5 with Lollipop via OTA (FW name is G900FXXU1BNL9 and my carrier is H3G Italia). After the update the smartphone continuosly reboot without any option to keep it powered up, so I cannot do anything!
The phone is unusable!
Seems that what happened to Robin Fosse happend also to me now, so Robin you are not alone... (!)
And there is a mistake by me :( . My last backup is done 3 month ago... so I want to try to re take my phone in life without make a hard reset loosing many data...
So I tried to load Lollipop with Odin 3.10 but nothing change.
Now I want to try to flash the original firmware (G900FXXU1ANG2) with Odin... is this a good idea? The phone is quite new and it's still under warranty...
I tried to follow this conversation with al the posts of Robin Fosse and ironass but I don't know very well what they are talking about, so I am in doubt... please help me!
Or somebody here may help me in other way, with some other suggestions?
In fact I need much more my fully functional S5 than a smartphone with Android 5.0...

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Mauro0206! :)

Try Wiping the Cache Partition as described in #1.3 of the S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide. There is even a video in that link to show you how to do it.

Hi Mauro.

Luckily for me Google keeps backup up all the time, as do samsung it seems (sms, callog etc).
I never backed up to KIES, just the cloud. Unless you have unchecked this I'm guessing you have got the same backup.

So i flashed 4.4.2 on my phone and recovered just about everything except for a few messages. No biggie.
However, by doing this it seems I broke the warranty. I talked to Samsung in Norway and they told me the only thing I could do was to bring it in for repairs. This was no option for me as it would take a couple of weeks.
A downgrade to 4.4.2 was the best solution for me so I could use the phone and note down what apps and whatnot I had installed and how everything looked.

When upgrading to 5.0 you get the option to set it up as a new device. That was the key for me :)

Hope this helps you along.
Shout out if you got any question :)

Hi Robin!
Thanks for your answer.
I think my google backup was on, but i never used it before... so I have to try it now. Reading here and everywhere else I made my opinion that what you have done is really the correct solution... also because I read of many other problems with application incompatibility and may be better to wait a bit for Lollipop o_O. So, there is no way to avoid the factory reset, is it correct? But I cannot see why you have to loose the warranty if you install an official firmware... bah... it's a mistery :D

But before to rollback to android 4.4.2 I want to try factory reset with Lollipop installed. In fact seems to be that the upgrade to Android 5.0 was fine and there must be a problem with some application... may be I can resume the phone with Lollipop installed... and if something else goes wrong again I will rollback to Kit Kat 4.4.2 ... may be a good thing to try. Isn't it?

Hello all

The same happened for me today , I did ota update to 5.0 and then the phone keeps rebooting, I somehow found out that turning off the wifi will do the trick and sofar no reboot of the phone is happening and looks like working normally, except I have no usb connection to try to force new update via kies and no wifi connectivity, if I enable wifi it goes for reboot in 5 to 10 sec. but try disable wifi..

Usually using Kies you can use the fail update tool to reinstall the firmware without loosing your data...

It is under tool - > emergency firmware restore or something like that.

Samsung Kies 3 is necessary.

In hindsight this is what I should have done. I would do a factory reset and set up as new device.
You'll have to reinstall all apps and all settings are lost, but you should get it up and running again (and still be under warranty)

Found this tip using google. However I never got this option...

for me neither unfortunatelly after factory reset fw installed via kies and restore all aps the issue is back. with wifi enabled phone is rebooting. so i do not know how to fix. it is strange that there is not more people with same problem

Hello, my Galaxy S5 has been having the same problems as most of you in this thread, i tried taking the SD card out, wiping the cache partition, safe mode, but nothing works.

Here some news about my story...
After a simple hard reset the phone is working also with wifi on. No more self reboot, but no alpplications and no data on it. So I made a restore from google backup. Something comes again to life! the applications are newly re-installed (loosing all the settings). Contacts are missing at 99% (I can't understand why some of them, very few, are restored)... so the phone seems to be allright now and with Lollipop update working fine... Nooooooo! The problem comes again! Since now I didn't power off the phone or reboot it, but yesterday evening the battery was finished and the phon powered off. At restart time it is again in rebooting loop! AAAARG! Damn!
So, the story is: there must be an application that crash the system... but I cannot know wich one and I can't loose days debugging this things.
So today I will flash the original firmware Kit Kat and use my last backup (dated october 2014... but is the only one I have) to restore everything. Hope this is the last try...
P.S.: knowing that option (the one of Kies3 i mean) i could try it, but now is too late... I performed the hard reset yesterday, so all my data are lost! Thanks InKoRtAGE!
Have a nice day guys!

This issue has got to do (from my understanding at least) with an app or some settings which are not compatible with Lollipop. I got it working when i set it up as a new device and then manually downloaded all apps from Google Play on a desktop computer. You can find all apps you ever have installed on either one of your Android devices if you got to Apps, https://play.google.com/apps .

If using Kies 3 on desktop you have it even when not connected to the phone.
I never got this option when i connected the phone to my pc no...

Hmm, I flashed mine with the latest from http://www.sammobile.com/ and then did the cache wipe, factory reset and set it up as a new device. The phone workes better than ever and the battery seems to have improved drastically :)

Could you please try to restore now everything from google and samsung account? if it phone will still work?
I'm guessing if i wipe it again and restore from my current backup (android 5.0) everything will work as it supposed to.
The recovery from Samsung which contained all sms and whatnot worked fine. It was the google one that messed it up.
I'd love to try factory default and restoring again just to see if it works, but haven't got the time at the moment...

Yes I thinks so too that the problem is with the google restore of datas eg wifi passwords and so on. I will wait some time maybe somebody will find some sollution

Seeing not many people seem to have this problem it might take a while?
I know several people with the S5 and they got the Lollipop working without any issues.
You could bring it in to a service workshop and have them update it for you but I'm guessing the same issue will be present and the only way around it will be to set it up as a new device.

Ps: I'm no expert, just a guy having said issue and found one way to fix it :)

I got the same issue seems to be some sync issues with Google account just choose skip and enter your account info manually (that includes Samsung account.)

I made the same mistake to proceed to install Lollipop, without any backup. Phone is rebooting like crazy after maximum 15 seconds. I have tried to wipe the cache partition, no results. I don't want to lose any data, do I stand any chance to do that? I really want my text messages, whatsapp conversations and all pictures...

Sorry but no.
I even went to my local Samsung support store, only thing that seems to work is a factory reset and set as a new device.
