Help Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1: Keyboard problem

Hi,

I've got a problem with the keyboard that seems to happen on all apps that require keyboard input. When I tap any key in the 3rd row, it also selects a key in the 4th row and vice versa. e.g. when I tap 'a' the 'w' on the row above is selected and 'wa' is written on the screen. When I tap 'w' then 's' on the 3rd row is also selected. This happens on the 3rd and 4th row of the keyboard all the way along the rows of keys.
Is this a known problem and if so what is the cause and solution?

Any help much appreciated.

Not a known problem. It could have been caused by double typing letters at sometime and accepting the combination. Which the keyboard then "learned". Try cleaning the keyboard cache in Application settings. That could lose all other "learned" words. Other option would be to delete the combinations individually. For that you will have to access the keyboard settings and Predictions. I use SwiftKey keyboard and cannot help with access to the std keyboard settings...

Thanks for the tip. I have now noticed that this is happening on other things as well, (Not just the keyboard). There seems to be a line across the face of the tablet where things do not respond to touch correctly. I am beginning to to wonder if this is a hard ware issue.

That would be quite easy to check. With screen rotate on, flip the tablet through 180 degrees. If it still happens, I'd do a factory reset. If it is hardware related it will persist after the factory reset.

Bear in mind that all data on the internal SD card will be erased.

Taken a while to reply as I have been busy with other things. However I followed your advice today and the problem still persists after a factory reset so I reckon it must be hardware related.

Hi Bosbouer,

I took a look at a disassembly vid on youtube and so had a go just to see if there wasn't anything obvious. Fortunately the video indicated which was the touchscreen cable. So having prised the main cover off I disconnected the touchscreen cable and gave the contacts a clean with a fibreglass pen I had. Re-connected, switched on, and problem has disappeared. So it must have been having a cold contact on that particular connector.
Tablet all together and working so I think we can put this thread to bed now. Thanks for your help and advice.
