Well this was different. Verizon branded Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" running FroYo, not rooted or modified in any way.
For the first three weeks of ownership the SGT7 got moderate, intermittent but frequent, use running mostly 3G in a working environment. The battery would last for 1.5 to 2 full 8 hour days. before it would start crying for a charge. This behavior was very consistent.
Then a few days ago I started getting abrupt drops in battery power and could, maybe, make it through half a day before it began demanding charge time.
Monday evening I charged it to "full charge" and pulled the cable to notice that the charge dropped almost immediately to 90%. For some reason I decided to simply shut the device down (hold power key and then push "turn off" on the menu). I then started it up again and after booting the power meter said 57%.
I plugged it back into the charger and left it to 99% (where it seemed to freeze, never quite finishing). Then I pulled the plug and rebooted again. It came back up with the power meter saying 70%.
Wash, rinse, repeat. Each time it rebooted with the power meter reading higher until finally when I plugged it in it sat there for about 60 seconds and then said "charge complete". That time a reboot came up with 99% and stayed there.
Since then (Tuesday and Today) The device has run precisely as it originally did, consuming roughly half a battery per workday and charging to full in normal time in the evening.
So I'm really not sure what screwed up the battery meter readings but the battery itself seems solid and the above process seems to have "reset" the monitor so that things are behaving normally again.
