Help Samsung Infuse - Durable?

This may seem like a REALLY nooby question.

My upgrade time is fast approaching, so the other day I went to check out the phones that my carrier has. Out of all of them, the one that caught my eye was the Infuse 4G.

I'm a bit worried, though. Given that I have a penchant for breaking phones, and that this phone is as big and as thin as it is, and made entirely out of plastic - not a good combination for me - I was wondering what this phone was like, durability-wise.

Have there been any stories of people literally snapping this phone in half? Does one drop completely demolish it? Can it stand the beating that a slightly clumsy person might give it and come out unscathed (or at least in good working order)? I've Googled this subject and haven't found any published news about people breaking this phone, so I thought I'd ask people who have owned this phone, hopefully enough to give a reasonable answer. If there are links to posts of people breaking these phones, please link them to me.

As this is the first phone I am plunking more than 50 dollars on, I want to make sure that this one will last me for at least until my next upgrade. Speed is not a huge issue for me, so I do not see the point of spending more for a dual core phone and the potential which I will probably never use. I am an esteemed member of the fat finger club, so the bigger the screen the better :D

If it helps, I am planning on buying a leather full body case. The phone is thin enough that hopefully it will still fit comfortably in my pocket, should I need to slip it in there, with all that padding.

Thanks for any help :D

well i have the infuse and i dont blame you for asking this question

i dropped it once from about three feet in central park and there was a 2 mm scratch/indent on the corner of the phone :O

i can't see the phone snapping in half but i can see the screen cracking.

I have had my infuse since the exact day it launched, and have dropped it many times. I have a case on it too, saving it from the ugly stuff. Based on your talent of breaking phones (just kidding), make sure you get a case and screen protector if you get this phone, or even any other. If you get the cheapest case though which i got, make sure you tape it together, or else if it hits the ground the case will literally break off! I know this from experince haha. Other then that, definitly my infuse went through more then the average. Compared to my friends mostly metal htc phones, this is actually holding up very well compared to it.

My previous phone (never owned a smartphone prior to the Infuse) was an old flip phone. Dropped it alot over the years. But it was durable and small enough to carry with no problem.
I had the same concerns about the size of the Infuse, and my tendency to drop phones made me wonder if it would hold up. I almost didn't buy it, but I did like it. As quickly as I could I found a hard shell case at Best Buy. I put it in the case, but at first I didn't carry the phone with me too much, or I would put it in a large pocket if I could. I did eventually get a belt clip. It took a little longer to find one because it was a new phone. Now the size isn't really noticeable and I carry it in the belt clip just about everywhere. I have dropped it, pretty hard on a hardwood floor. The hard shell case popped off, but the phone had no visible damage and has been working fine. Even the case was OK. I just snapped it back on.

The outer rim is actually some sort of thin aluminum alloy, I know because I dented it. Get and otter box fifty bux. However I would say this fon is not for clumsys. I am extremely gentle with it I feel like I'm gonna break it in my hands I have very dextrous hands

the phone itself is a thin "imo" solidly built device.
However as i am a very clumsy person ans work outside i do recomend 2 dif cases. the ballistic case if you work with hands. and that gel case for going out on town!
remem its not a toy its basicly a mini tablet,
