Help Samsung Infuse - no text identification

2 things: When i receive a text message my screen stays black or off, so i have to unlock the screen and then use the drop down notifications just to get to the message.

Is there a way to get texting i.d. (like caller i.d.) so i can see who is testing me without having to actually open the text?

Can i change how longit takes before my screen locks?

I don't recall names off the top of my head, but I know I've seen apps that do that. Try searching the Android and Amazon markets.
