Samsung keyboard sweeping feature

Sorry if I am missing something but under the samsung keyboard settings there is an option to enable keyboard sweeping. What does this do?

Its a feature in which you would swipe your finger across your keyboard and it would switch to numbers :Dor letters it took me like two hours to figure it out
