Most likely option #2...
Remember, the phone has a few unexplained missing features for it's price point:
front cam, rear cam >= 5MP, cam zoom, to focus on cameras only.
This is sad, I hate to say thiis but people are going to start returning this phone because how can we enjoy it for real? I'm thinking about it right now. What a way to support ur first 4g smart phone smfh
I'd agree, but have you researched the alternatives? For me, it's all about the battery. If I can make the battery last a reasonable time I'll be happy.
I'm researching vacuum forming machines right now.
Anyone wanna buy an extended back cover?
Are you trying to re-mould a back cover to accommodate the 2600mAh battery for SCH-i400 Continuum or such?

Yeah, I have read up on vacuum molding as well. I think it's somewhat of an art, to get the hang of doing it just right (get the plastic to just the right temperature, just the right amount of vacuum, etc...). Of course, doing something as small as a cell phone battery cover is easier than something larger with deeper pulls.
But then, you can no longer use any kind of case, or even the stick on "skin" type protection that I ordered. All of those things are made specifically to fit the phone "as is." So, to fix one problem, you create another (unless you don't care about a case; personally I would never let my phone go "naked").
So they have it readily available but we have to jump through hoops to find itme: Can you give me a link to the user manual?
Paxton: Sure.
Paxton: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c.../MPC_SCH-R910_Indulge_English_User_Manual.pdf
Me: Can you give me a link to the drivers so I can charge and transfer files from my pc?
Paxton: I apologize for the inconvenience. There are no drivers available for the phone however I will provide you the web link for connecting the phone to PC.
Paxton: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...G_ID=0&AT_ID=370388&PROD_SUB_ID=0&PROD_ID=623
Paxton: once you uncheck the debugging mode, you need to connect the phone to PC.
Paxton: Then you will get a "mass storage mode" option where you can select the settings.
So they have it readily available but we have to jump through hoops to find it
I don't know if you guys are aware of this or not, or if it helps, but I found (and installed) some Samsung USB drivers while I was installing EasyTether. Find them here:
EasyTether - Android Tether Solution: EasyTether drivers
See the part about supplementary drivers for Samsung. I don't know if these are just drivers for EasyTether, or general USB drivers for Samsung (from another phone perhaps?).
Incidentally, I was able to get EasyTether to work just fine (USB tether)! Tested speeds around 1mbps down and 300kbps up (only ran one test so far).
Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Marcus'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.

Marcus: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Mike: I would like to know why the samsung galaxy indulge has no way to turn off 4G
Marcus: I understand you want to know if there is a way to turn OFF 4G on Samsung Indulge. Am I right?
Mike: yes
Marcus: Thank you for confirming.
Marcus: No, there is no option to turn OFF 4G from the phone options. But you can contact the carrier to get the 4G services on the phone turned OFF.
Marcus: If you contact the carrier and ask them to turn OFF the 4G services on the phone, they will deactivate the services.
Mike: i dont want the carrier to turn of 4G service
Mike: and its also not even an option from the carrier
Marcus: Unfortunately, there is no option on the phone to turn OFF 4G services. But carrier can disable the services.
Mike: no the carrier cant
Mike: 4G is required with this phone by the carrier
Mike: and i dont want the carrier sutting off my service, I want to turn 4G off and back on only when needed
Mike: most of the battery is used up by the 4G while its not even being used
Marcus: I have checked the information. As these services are provided by the carrier, they can disable the services on request from the customer. But there is no option to turn it OFF and ON from the phone.
Mike: ok well an option NEEDS to be added to the phone
Mike: I'm able to do it on the phone through a hidden menu, but that should not be something cusomers should have to do
Marcus: I understand your concern, I will take your suggestions to the concerned department.
Marcus: But as of now, this option is not available on the phone. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
Mike: when will we receive an updated android OS?
Mike: Gingerbread has been out before the phone
Mike: phones been out for 2 months
Mike: still no update
Marcus: Unfortunately, as of now there is no official information on the release date of the Android 2.3/Gingerbread. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Mike: I have been reading up online and it seems like samsung is not updating most of their android phones
Mike: and just leaving everyone with outdated versions
Marcus: Once the update is released officially, you will be notified on the phone from the carrier and the same information will be posted on the Samsung website.
Mike: why is this so?
Mike: does samsung plan on supporting their devices with updates or no?
Marcus: Unfortunately, we do not have exact information on the why the update is not released yet. Once it is released, we will be able to provide exact information.
Mike: not wanting to give a set Date to your customers i can understand, but not telling the IF there will ever be an update is just unbelievable .
Mike: its as if you only care about selling the phone and dont want to deal with the customers after getting their money
Marcus: I understand your concern, but as of now we do not have the information on the release of the update. I don't want to provide you wrong information without having the official information from Samsung.
Mike: also i would like to know why samsung would say that the galaxy indulge(their own product) is not a good phone
Mike: i agree, but why would they admit to this?
Mike: I'm looking at the source code from the indulge that was released by samsung and it says the following (ill copy/past it in)
Mike: /*This is a temporary piece of crappy code that I was forced to write as I did not figure out how to properly use the SPI driver in the system. Please resist the temptation of ever using this code in a good Samsung phone. I will remove this code as soon as I figure out the correct way of using the SPI driver*/
Marcus: There is no such comment from Samsung, that tells Samsung Indulge is not a good phone.
Mike: so the indulge is not a good phone, and they are using crappy code in it?
Mike: doesnt sound good to me
Marcus: I am not saying that Indulge is not a good phone. Also there is no such comment from Samsung, that says such.
Mike: i copy and pasted that directly from the sourcecode release by samsung
Mike: its on the samsung website
Marcus: Could you please provide the link so that I can take this to the concerned department and check the information?
Mike: Samsung Open Source Release Center
Mike: search for the phone model
Mike: sch-r910
Marcus: Sure, please let me check that once.
Mike: download the sourcecode and it is in there
Mike: the file that its in is
Mike: SCH-R910_OpenSource\SCH-R910_Froyo_Kernel\modules\samsung\ltespi\ltespi.c
Mike: and under that it says
Mike: //This lines tells how desperate I am right now .. ha ha.. spi0_regbase = ioremap_nocache(DRV_SPI0_BASE, 4096);
Mike: doesnt look to good for a customer to see that stuff in your product
Mike: like your just throught stuff together and not knowing if it will work
Mike: and its made by samsung
Mike: the top of the file says
Mike: /**************************************************************************** ** ** COPYRIGHT(C) : Samsung Electronics Co.Ltd, 2006-2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ** ** LTE SPI Driver ** Author: Viswanath Puttagunta <vputtagunta@sta.samsung.com> ** Date Created: 04-20-2010 ** Ported from Aries OneDRAM driver ****************************************************************************/
Marcus: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mike: ok
Marcus: I am sorry to inform you that we do not have the information regarding this comment as we in chat support deal with technical issues of the phones, I will take this information to the notice of concerned department and check the trueness of the information.
Marcus: I once again apologize for the inconvenience caused due to this post or any other reasons.
Mike: will i be contacted win an anser
Mike: answer
Marcus: Updated information on this will be posted on the Samsung website in the link below.
Marcus: news SAMSUNG
Mike: in other words nothing will be done and we will all be left in the dark
Marcus: I did not say that, but the information on this will be posted on the Samsung website, under news column.
Marcus: this comment in the open source*
Mike: they only put stuff in there for things like anouncing new phones
Mike: so i guess if we ever want gingerbread we will have to watch for a new phone that has it
Marcus: When the Android 2.3 is updated for the phone, it will be made available and the information on how to update the phone, will be posted on the website.
Mike: so our phone is going to be updated?
Marcus: We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion. We can assure you on this only if the information is officially released by Samsung.
Mike: is this not samsung?
Marcus: Yes, but we in chat support deal with technical issues of the phones and we do not have the information on future released services and updates for the phone.
Mike: ok well answer me this last question
Marcus: Please go ahead.
Mike: I cant be the only person asking for android or a 4G toggle. are these issues something that other people are also reporting to you or is this the first your hearing of it?
Mike: gingerbread or 4G toggle
Marcus: Regarding the Gingerbread update, we do not have some customers asking. But we cannot assure you on the release until the information is officially released from Samsung. But regarding the 4G toggle, this is the first issue we got.
I wonder if any of those concerns will ever actually be forwarded on up the food chain? Or it they are, if they will ever actually be acted upon.
