Samsung May Be Looking At Some Trouble

AFP: Judge sets December hearing on Samsung phone ban

Wait one minute. Hold the phone.
You mean to tell me that that $1 billion could be tripled, and that the S3 is facing simular litigation in a separate suit?
You know, seriously, I was contemplating getting another Samsung phone, but now I'm gonna hold off. As I said, there's just too much uncertainty involved in all this. Logic tells me one thing, but circumstances are yelling something else. I mean as far as I'm concerned, I don't give a damn if they copied them or not. I just don't want to shell out hundreds of dollars, then not be able to have it supported.

You want an SIII and is the US? Buy one from Canada or Mexico. Easy enough LOL. The software support will still exist. As I said earlier in the thread, Europe and Asia won't even feel the effects of this trial unless Apple holds similar patents. And even if they did, this won't even create precedents even if Apple does own the exact same patent, in say, the UK. They would still have to go on trial for every country Apple owns a patent in, and not all of these countries would side with Apple. In Korea for example, a similar trial ruled that Apple violated Samsung patents, and if I am not mistaken, those were the same patents unceremoniously thrown out by the US court.

I own an S3 and have no concerns whatsoever about support from Samsung regardless of what Apple has to say about it. This case will be appealed and fought over for longer than the Galaxy S3 will be relevant. The Galaxy S5 will probably be released before this case is completely settled. Remember, this case started last year (I think last June). It's a very slow moving case.

If you want an S3, get an S3. If Apple had any way of blocking it, they would have tried by now. The only thing they did against the S3 was try to tie it with the Galaxy Nexus ruling over universal search. That motion was denied and search was corrected to prevent a separate attempt on it.

Regardless, Sammy will continue to support the S3. We're getting Jelly Bean "very soon" according to the CEO yesterday.

I hope they do so all the sheep start crying even more after they find out their 5th iteration is just a tiny step from the 4s. Great entertainment every release day.

This mirrors some of the comments on the articles I've seen since the ruling. While all the analysts are pointing gloom and doom for Samsung, I've been noticing more people taking notice.

Especially with tablets, because they are not subsidized. If the courts and Apple say that the Samsung tablet is the same as their tablet, and it's $300 less, that'd be a no brainer to pick up a Samsung tablet, then. The most ironic thing is that Apple isn't seeking a sales ban on any of Samsung's tablets.

And now Google's and Apple's CEOs are talking on some cross-licensing of patents. Granted, that would only cover vanilla Android and I'm sure Apple will still sue over rounded rectangles and icons that look like theirs. But if Apple can't directly attack vanilla Android, I don't see a downside.

So, in the end, we might have to thank Apple for being Apple. We might get a better Android experience overall in then next year or so.

Again, even if they actually pull off banning the S3, it still won't stop Software support for it. They could easily create an update package in europe that just "happens" to have the update data for the US phones in it.;)

Or, they can just as easily create the US update package and simply host it outside the US.

Also nonsense. The S3 wasn't included in that judgement, so I can't imagine how they can get this in the 10 days before their launch. Waste of effort, unless the real objective is to spread FUD.

Well my S3 has already dropped in value. Ppl want to offer me 200-300$ for it... this is sad. I have the worse case of buyers remorse. I'm dreaming of the iphone 5...

I'd keep the phone, root it (just so no official update/software could be added)
and enjoy it all the more.

Stuff would drop in value anyway as soon as a new device was rumored.

No phone EVER should be seen as an investment vehicle. It's a device plain and simple. No one should buy something like a phone expecting to make any money on it down the line.

I have no buyers remorse what so ever. It is an excellent phone and I'm very very happy with it.

Sounds like you should have never touched an Android in the first place. Perhaps you're better off with an iDevice.

? Is this serious, or are you just trying to get a reaction? Maybe I'm missing the sarcasm. (wouldn't be the first time) You do realize all phones drop in price rather quickly, right?

Your SIII? A second hand device? Hell I wouldn't dream of buying a second hand device for more than 70% of its sale value. Even if this trial did not happen I WILL NOT pay you more than $350 for a device you bought a $550.

He just might be one of those people who like to have the latest and greatest just to show off and "because it's new." Would probably drop it as soon as something new was released anyway.

We must have a few around here - you see posts about dodging the ETF.
