Samsung Note 4 release timing Fail?

As far as sales numbers - wouldn't worldwide be the true measure?? Any numbers on how Samsung fared worldwide compared to the last iphone? You have to consider samsung has several devices for sale, so one would need to include all of them (I'm talking phones, not tabs). Also, you have to consider that Samsung is just one of many android devices to buy/use. So having a true feel for fail or not fail would have to take those differences into consideration IMHO. I doubt Samsung is going to be hurting overall, but sheer US numbers I'm sure apple will sell more new iphones than the N4.
Apple will sell more iPhone 6's than Samsung will sell Galaxy S5's. Apple will sell more iPhone 6 Plus devices than Samsung will sell Galaxy Note 4's.

Just the pre-orders will require a couple if not a few months for the Note 4 to reach in sales, and that's not counting China.

If you count Samsung's Total World-Wide sales, than you're throwing in a ton of Low End and Mid Range devices and none of those are designed to compete with latter model iPhones. I don't, personally, know anyone who can get an iPhone 5 but opts to get a Galaxy Express device instead, Lol.

Typically the iPhone will outsell every other phone, and the latest Galaxy S will struggle to sell more devices than Last Years model iPhone and some older iPhones will beat out Samsung's previous Flagship (which outsells more OEMs and still sells quite a bit due to discounts at Carriers here). The Note series has never registered in a Top 5 for phone sales here. A Top 5 List here is typically 3-4 iPhones and 1-2 Galaxy S devices.

And I don't expect anything that isn't made by Apple but costs $700+ to register in markets that favor cheaper devices (which is where Apple tends to have trouble, as they do not specifically target those markets in effort to keep their profit margins up).

Apple has a huge advantage over Samsung in that they don't compete within their own ecosystem for sales with anyone while Samsung does. A lot of people don't buy the iPhone because it's a cult symbol. A lot of people actually buy it because they prefer iOS and the Apple Ecosystem, and there's literally only one place to get it.

Android phones are all practically interchangeable.

Oh dear, that will hurt Apples plans for the Chinese market. :D
Oh well, China Mobile will be selling more Samsungs then. :D

In this country many people don't buy iPhones for the ecosystem, they buy them for the brand and the status it can convey. Just like buying Gucci handbags and Burberry raincoats..."Handbags and Gladrags" and mobile phones.

Could be a rather lucrative grey market...$$$

I think folks might be interpreting this wrong. The iPhone is already on backorder due to record breaking demand. This is nothing but good for Apple. Respectfully, folks thinking otherwise including some media are as wrong as can be.

Thing is many people who buy Apple products in China, is not as if they're buying them for the ecosystem. When they buy Macs, they often erase OS X and install pirated Windows XP or 7, really because the Mac versions of popular software like QQ are not very good, and many Chinese sites still only work properly with IE. And especially here in Inner Mongolia. Mac OS X doesn't support Mongolian Script, same for other minority languages, something like "Cherokee Nation" is no good, so that's why they often run Windows on Macs. The iTunes Store doesn't sell music or movies here, it's apps, ebooks, podcasts and iTunes U only, they're usually downloading from services like Baidu, Xiami and PPTV.

Choosing between Android and iOS here, is really down to can it make phone calls, can it send messages, can it take photos, can it do WeChat and QQ, can it install free casual games and fart apps. ;) ..yup they both can do that, quite interchangeably.

I don't think the delays in China are due to back orders, that's due to Apple not getting approval from a government ministry. Basically Apple has to get a special TD-SCDMA/TD-LTE version of the iPhone 6 approved if they wish to sell it via China Mobile(state owned). Samsung has to do the same with the Note 4. More than half the population are China Mobile subscribers, including me. ...the world's largest carrier.

Bet your bottom dollar there will be plenty of grey imports though and sold at inflated prices, problem is they only give 2G EDGE service with China Mobile. At Beijing airport, especially after a major Apple launch, customs are actually searching people for contraband Apple products, as well as other smuggled luxury products. I encountered this about a month after the first iPad launch, when I flew back from Hong Kong(SAR) to Beijing. The iPad was generally available in HK but not mainland.

Maybe there will be a "iPhone 6" in 5.5" with Android in China :)

All it would need is a micro sd slot and then an instant purchase!

iPhone 6 5.5" + microsd + Android = Sweet :)

Okay, enough dreaming. Maybe the S6 will be a clone with sd card ;)

Of course... :D

"Gooapple & Co." already started to make them... ...maybe with a bit of help from a couple of Foxconn suppliers.

The Android iPhone 4s were quite popular.

You pretty much said what I posted in the post you quoted.
