Help Samsung S4 SVoice problems

GGMET

Lurker
The S Voice app on my MertoPcs Samsung S4 works only on WiFi.
On the network s voice responds with "cannot find a network, please connect and try again"
I am connected to the network just fine.
I am on my 4th (yes, 4th) phone thru Metro.
The Voice app does the same right out of the box
Consulting with Samsung did not resolve anything nor did Metro.
Additionally, few Widgets don't work either - direct dial and Contact for examle, (on all 4 phones).
My phone is 919n android 4.3
Oddly enough, on my first phone with android 4.2.2 all was working fine. I suspect the trouble began after the update to 4.3 (all 4 replacement phone came with android 4.3
Please help.

You say that app is called what voice app has been a problem for many and some for the s5 . metro took back your device for apks not working wooow:eek: they laughed at me and said HOW MAY I HELP THE NEXT PERSON IN LINE.
Do you have the one that came with 422 update

What are you looking for the app to do. First let's clear the app data and cache from the android setting}manage apps . then what are you looking for the app to do some users looking for things the app can't do . such as I was . and have to stand corrected.:D

I need the app for hands free ops. Together with Metro as well as and Samsung I tried it all. The app works well on wifi, it's on the regular netwok that it cannot find and connect.

I know this is an odd question, but do you have any Internet Security apps installed? I used to use Kaspersky and had a similar issues (but backwards.) S-Voice would only work on Network, it would say it couldn't find a network when on WiFi, but in my research I did find some folks that had the other issue. Anyway, if you do have any internet security software installed, try removing it and see if that helps.

The problem manifests itself right out of the box before any app installation.

Sounds like there's a setting that might be making it work over wifi but not network. Or another thing it could be is MetroPCS could have that app now blocked on their network. That's one reason I left MetroPOS, cause they were starting to block apps on their network from using data. But I doubt it's 4.3 or problems with the phones.

I checked with Samsung, there are no settings to adjust. Also I tried other Samsung models at Metro - the app work on all of them.

I am at a loss as to what to tell you. I have a VZW branded S4 and, with the exception of the issue with Kaspersky, I haven't had any issues with S-Voice at all. Have you tried to use Google Now instead? I should be able to accomplish the same functions as S-Voice. I did some searching and really couldn't find any other issues similar to yours. One thing that you may want to try is to boot the phone into Safe Mode and see if the problem persists there.

Keep us updated,

I think metro pcs maybe doing work on the towers near your location this would be for the reason I asked if u live near a store or corporate store . just sit outside the store so the app can get the updates it needs to run . then when it does you can return home to see if it still works or not.

Keep us updated,
I was told by Metro that they a nd Samsung think it's has to do with programming and they are working on an update. Meanwhile Metro has received more complains from other customers. I was advised to wait for the update.
I am willing to give them a chance and wait a little more time.

I will try your suggestions and advise.

I'm having the exact same issue with my Metro PCS Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919N). S Voice only works when connected to wifi. Very randomly it will work on the 4G lte for a minute or two and then it will not work for another week. Neither Metro or Samsung could solve the problem over the phone. One of Metro corporate stores in my area said their were not aware of the problem and told me I could come back in a few days to swap the phone (they were out of stock). I went to Best Buy today and had the "Samsung Genius" look at it. He performed a system reinstall which did not fix the problem either. He suggested me to wait for the next update before exchanging the phone. I will wait... not to mention that if I swap the phone, I might get a refurbished unit with some other types of hidden problems. Any news or findings I'll be posting here.

I said that they told people to wait til a repair update that is going to come out . only thing is no one Dont know when . I think they no this device had this problem with this s-voice they would have worked out something. And now that the companies are combining I know that a repair update wont be out til December . and may not .they may make a new s5 limited to fix these problems . think we are screwed if u ask me .

Yeah, we might be stuck, but lets hope otherwise. Oh well, I love the phone, just this issue is that drives me crazy! My daughter had an S3 and my wife has a Mega, and the S Voice on both were / are flawless. I think the problem may reside on the S Voice 11.2.2.0 version on the S4. I really hope they can find the cure soon. Too much $ for a device that doesn't perform as it should.

I've got the same problem with S voice not working on data network but working on Wi-Fi. I tried talking with Tech at Samsung. That was a waste of time and obviously the tech was having a hard time operating their flip chart of responses. They even referred me to my carrier (who laughed and tried to do a 3-way call with samsung...still no collective answers. I removed and reinstalled S-Voice (no help...still didnt work) and did a factory reset of the phone. Still didnt work. Took the phone to Best Buy. Geek Squad tech poked around with the settings but couldn't figure out a solution. He recommended Google Go and I installed it. Works GREAT. Maybe S-Voice will eventually get fixed but till then, I'll stick with Google Go.

Greetings all,
So, on August 19, 2014, S-VOICE on my Galaxy S3 (carrier @T&T) stopped working; citing she "cannot not find a network connection, please connect to networks and try again". This happened while out on the road. When the S3 connects to Wi-Fi, S-VOICE begins working just fine. The carrier said "call samsung, we don't troubleshoot apps and our network is fine". Called Samsung, they said "call your carrier". After escalation, they finally admitted there's a problem. Before admitting, they sent me through the firey hoops. Clear s-voice cache, clear s-voice data, reset to factory (twice). Then, go to Best Buy and see our geek; who upgraded me to 4.4.2 kitkat. Still no go. So, I sat home, on wi-fi, used s-voice, found the destination IP address. Ran that through visual route pro. The packets go from me (@T&T dsl in south fla) up through atlanta, blah blah, to new jersey, across the pond to mainz, germany, back to new jersey, then finally to cambridge, ma. Guess who's there? Nuance. Called nuance, they offer no support for s-voice nor did they want to assist in any way shape or form.
Ouch. A friend on another wireless carrier says he's got the same problem. Works via wi-fi but not his cellular data network.
Did I say ouch! Someone's got a content filter blocking these s-voice packets.

i was having the same problem on my S4 from AT&T for the last month. when using S voice on network it would say "cant find network". when on wifi it would work fine. I cleared the cache for the security app "lookout" that came with the 4.4.2 upgrade. it is now working fine. hope this helps!!!

Open "Settings", Click on "Security", Drop down and click on "Security policy updates", Click on "Preferred networks", Put a bullet in "Wi-Fi or mobile networks". This should cure your problem and you should now be able to use S-Voice with or without a Wi-Fi connection. Turn on S-Voice. I just stumbled upon the solution tonight. It is working with my Security level on "High". My service provider is AT&T. Good luck!

You, sir, are a GENIUS and have managed to answer the question that had AT&T, Best Buy Geek Squad, and even Techies at Samsung befuddled, not to mention all the users like me that had tried every fix they could think of to no avail. THANK YOU!
