Samsung Should Stop Promoting Galaxy Tab and Fix Galaxy S Phones

Samsung should stop promoting the Galaxy Tab and fix the Galaxy S phones. Tab is running 2.2 and most likely has a fixed GPS. While the rest of us who paid for a product still have not gotten our money's worth.
 
It will be out soon...that is just how corporations go...money is more important. But soon...just wait probably another 2 months, because don't forget at&t has to drag their heels and release it to us AT&T peons.
 
I have my doubts that Samsung's PR personnel would be at all helpful in product development. ;)

I bought my cappy knowing full well the problems that come with it, confident that Samsung won't leave Galaxy S phones behind. It's an important line to them. If anything, I'm glad to see 2.2 running on the Tab. Imagine if it were running 2.1, how confident would you be of seeing 2.2 come to your phone?
 
I'm in the market for a table and I would not consider buying a Galaxy Tab given their track record with the Galaxy S. Poor communication skills, delays in getting critical fixes out, etc. have lowered my expectations of Samsung as a company. Show me how good you are at staying on top of the issues and I'll open my wallet to support the cause.

Without mentioning three key letters, I'll say that some of my apps have limited functionality at the moment. How can you say yours works fine is beyond me, there are issues and no I'm not expecting the second coming of Steve Jobs (Android Version). If I were to use the phone for calling, playing games and web surfing, yes, it works great (occassional lag). But there is another key feature, three letters, that is extremely useful and used by several apps on this phone.

If you want to trash me for demanding resolution to an issue, go ahead. But I find it wrong for a company not to communicate the status of an issue and at the same time ask me to buy a product based on the same foundation as the Galaxy S. I don't want to hear about dates or Twitter updates or the fact that September is not over. Samsung is big enough to deliver new products and maintain old ones, now live up to the responsibility. And like the previous poster said, why do we trash each other when we should be trashing Samsung for their failures.

You can't argue that Samsung has failed miserably when it comes to communicating or keeping us up to date on the issues and/or roadmap of this successful product.
 
By the way the proximity sensor and bluetooth issues have been fixed as well as 24 security vulnerabilities. Remember the IPhone 4 came out a month or so before the Captivate and since then three updates have been released.
 
I have to agree with Cuerbo and nkosi here. I have never owned a smart phone and I am eligible for a phone upgrade tomorrow. I will most likely get the Aria. I've been lurking / reading the message boards for a few weeks, trying to justify the additional cost of the Captivate. It's just not happening. As a newbie to smartphones, I want my first one to work. GPS is also important to me as I would like to use it on the golf course. I need something that is going to be accurate within a couple yards, not almost a thousand.
 
To address the op, unfortunately, the people who work in advertising can't help fix the phone, it's just not their expertise. Also, despite the fact that samsung is a huge company and can obsorb such costs, not delaying the promotion of their flagship line of products while an entirely different part of the company tries to fix a minor issue would be a mistake.

Don't get me wrong, I understand where your coming from. I feel your frustration, but there's nothing we can do except return the phone if you can. The fix will come, we just need to be patient.

Also, I tried the aria before the captivate. That little phone is pretty nice, but the captivate is just way cooler. The screen, the power to run the best games, it's just a way better device.

They have been communicating. You just don't like that they haven't given you a fixed date for release; because they don't have one yet. They're still working on it.
For you to be mad that they're developing and advertising a new product instead of fixing yours just shows how little you know about the situation.
There very likely are two separate teams working on these two products. It's not like they released the Captivate, then took all those people and put them on the team developing the Tab. They're separate teams. I wont even address the naivete of you thinking they shouldn't advertise a new product because yours isn't fixed. It's absurd.

You've been praising Apple for the way they handle things and expecting Samsung to treat the Captivate in the same way.
You're not comparing the two companies in the same way. Apple screwed up and so did Samsung. Apple released a small update that supposedly "fixed" some things and worked on other issues with the phone. They only recently came out with that fix to my knowledge.
Samsung is working on that fix, they've told you they expect to release it this month. I imagine it isn't finished testing or maybe development so they can't give you a date.
If you can't accept the situation you should just return the phone.
It's obvious nothing short of a personal apology from Samsungs CEO directly to you is going to make you happy.

My apologies if I'm taking this thread in an unintended direction. If someone (me) doesn't plan on playing the latest, greatest games on his "phone", and prefers a smaller phone (with less bugs), would you recommend the Aria over the Captivate? Thanks.

So let's get this straight, the Galaxy Tab is based on the Galaxy S? So does the Galaxy Tab have the GPS bug? If so, why are they selling it with a known issue and if not, why hasn't that tested fix been poured to the same foundation used by Galaxy S phones?

Stop apologizing for Samsung, you obviously have no clue how bad this company is when it comes to updates. Besides the phone, which I do love, you should buy a Blu Ray player from them and see how well it goes. The second to last Blu Ray firmware screwed up my device, tons of forums had details about this and many wrote to Samsung (Plenty of examples online). What did Samsung do? Wait for it... You guessed it, didn't say a word and quietly pulled the firmware from the website. Then took 3 months to fix it and in the "What's in the update" section just mentioned, improves playback capabilities. Yeah, that's the way you handle issues.

You can argue all you want, Apple has been much more proactive when it comes to updating their customers and addressing issues. Are they perfect, heck no but they try. And if you call Twitter updates such as "We don't have a date, we are working on it" keeping us end users up to date, you might want to pinch yourself and see if you are alive. A true company goes all out to let users know that it is being worked on, I think you call that a press release last time I checked. All the updates we have seen on this forum either come from Twitter or someone online who happened to see something that signals a potential fix. With the exception of the CNET article that hinted to a possible fix, I've yet to see an official Samsung Press Release about this issue or from AT&T for that matter. Keep living in wonderland, we'll see how far that takes you.
 
I personally believe they are waiting on broadcom for the drivers. Broadcom has quite a reputation for halfway drivers and poor hardware design. If the fix doesn't come, keep and eye out for another lawsuit against Broadcom.
 
There's another thread in the forum now mentioning a lawsuit against Samsung. I guess this goes to prove I'm not the only one with concerns, this should be no surprise. A couple of things come to mind when I see the Galaxy Tab, which is an oversized phone:

1. Does it have the same GPS issue?
2. If the GPS issue is present, why do they keep selling defective hardware/software?
3. Galaxy Tab running Froyo, when does the rest of the community get it? Why be so secretive about a release date or a general release time frame?
4. Lack of communication from Cellular providers regarding the GPS issue, like Samsung, they carry blame as well.

The more a fix is delayed the more people are starting to think it can't be addressed via a software update. I'm not so much in a rush for Froyo as I would like the GPS and Lag issues fixed. Give me those two and I don't mind waiting another two months for Froyo.

My Captivate and my wife's Aria will arrive in the mail tomorrow. That said, I certainly would recommend the Aria to you. I probably would have gone with the Aria myself if it weren't for a few personal issues:
1) Big hands, the Captivate's screen is more comfortable for me
2) Application development, I consider the Captivate an investment in my line of work so I opted for the more powerful of the two. (That said, in day-to-day use they are said to be equally quick.)
3) I'm a geek, I want to discover everything I can do with this thing. That includes games. Similarly, I'm able to deal with the issues that come with it.

If that's not you, I certainly would recommend the Aria.

Sorry to everyone else for being off-topic, please resume.

This sums it up! If you don't like it or think Samsung won't fix it, return it.
