Hello and welcome to Android Forums
timgus and
sagehart!
Today I got a message telling me to update my firmware when I have wifi. So I did, downloaded it and the phone said it would reset it'self. It did, but then a message came up saying "Failed to update firmware. Try again using PC software )Kies) or visit a samsung service centre".
Any ideas how I can fix it?
It sounds as though your OTA, (Over The Air), update may have been corrupted in the download. OTA is not my preferred method of update as these sort of things can happen.
You have 3 options:-
1. Connect your phone to Samsung's PC Suite, Kies, and use that to try and download and install your update.
2. Take your phone to the nearest Samsung Service point and explain what has happened and request that they perform an update.
3. Perform the update yourself. This would mean downloading the update tp your PC and installing it via Odin. There have been only 2 Australian updates in the last 4 weeks for the
GT-i9100, (the non, "
T", variant), Australia. One is a generic, unbranded, and the other is for the Optus network. Both are
XWLPW.
The unbranded version is for CSC code
XSA,

The Optus version for CSC code
OPS,

To determine your CSC code, see post #1,

For instructions on how to flash this firmware to your phone using Odin, se under the heading, "
My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post
#1 of the above link.
Im in Aus too. Have spoken with samsung who informed me that the 4.1 Jeally Bean isnt available for Australian users yet. I can only imagine its because the phone companies are making their own versions we will be forced to use unless you go about the varying manual update processes i am seeing on other threads
The official, worldwide,
Jelly Bean release for the Galaxy S2 is not scheduled to commence until November and if ICS is anything to go by, could take 2 or 3 months before the majority of users are updated. See posts
