But this is leaked from where? I mean will there me a leaked version for the vibrant bc I heard that TMO took the wifi hotspot out of Froyo on their version.

Why would T-Mobile leave hotspot, that doesn't even make sense to allow that. So we can make our phone a hotspot and abuse the data plan?

I suppose your right, but I still would love that feature. Im sure there will be something on xda on how to make your phone a wifi hotspot buut it will probley need me to root my phone and idk if I am prepaired to do that.
Also how can at&t keep theirs in np but TMO not?
In retrospect its not to big of a deal, but the two features I was most excited about for 2.2 were going to be flash and wifi hotspot but since they disabled that...also on a different note do you know if 2.2 will come with a fm radio?

You caught me! I work for samsung, the new drop date is october 17th. We had some complications with the hummingbird CPU not processing certain data properly which was causing a few feedback loops that would eventually crash the phone. But dont worry, we're diligantly working on this and will have 2.2 ready for you on the 17th.
perhaps the GPS fix will be included with froyo after all. I'm hoping this is true, but no sweat if is not.

I'd say this is definitely a bogus story. There's no logic to think that AT&T and TMo would release an update on a similar schedule. They each do their own thing with the firmware. For someone to lump both carriers in together like this makes no sense.

They better come thru mid October. If not and it ends up in Dec, ill be pissed. Isnt Gingerbread supposed to be coming out soon after the end of the year? Hell we will never get that if it takes us til Dec to get 2.2 and if that happens, this will be my last Samsung smart phone as well.
Im used to Apple getting the updates out pretty quick so i guess ill have to switch to an HTC as well when i get my next upgrade.

If you think about it, ATT released their "GPS Fix" and it had issues and it didn't correct the GPS for some people. So maybe T-Mo and ATT worked with Samsung to correct these issues and T-Mo waited to get it correct for the end user? ATT releases another one to give Froyo and also correctly fix the GPS while Vibrant users get Froyo and GPS/Lag fix + Other enhancements. Like TalkAndroid said, and I think it might be true, CDMA has issues. Seeing as how T-Mo has been "Secretly" working on an update this might be our Froyo and ATT users might get their true fix too. Who knows. I hope it's true. I can wait until Mid-Oct for anything. AS long as they stick to it.
PS. I hope this made sense... lol

thanks hope all my simpleton questions arent to annoying,as i am a middle aged nerd who always wants the newest toy. i really believe i didnt get the most out of my g1,my touch or htc hd2. i wish i had known about this website a couple years ago. everyone here seems very helpful,friendly and extremeley knowledgeable. thanks everyone who has replied.

mind creating the thread? I'm dealing with a horrible wasp, black widow, and ant infestation right now.
A little history about Samsung, and not just phones. Have a Samsung Blu Ray player, 2nd to last firmware release broke it and 3 months went by before they addressed the problem. In the meantime, they pulled the defective firmware and replaced it with the previous one as well as a document stating for your to rollback as a workaround. Only problem was, you can't rollback, so that generated a second wave of complaints.
The same can be said with the Galaxy S, people forget that this line has been around almost 6 months now. Started back in Asia then Europe then the US. You would think by now they would know how to solve the GPS problem and have Froyo available for carrier consumption. It's not like they can't get Froyo while in development, same as Microsoft does with software companies.
As for the Captivate fix, ex-Captivate owner here, it was a total sham. The GPS issue was not fixed and some of the other improvements were not noticeable. To make matters worse, the initial AT&T documentation did not state that a GPS fix was included. Only after it was released, did both parties claim that was the case. 2 days after the release, I called AT&T which in turn conferenced in Samsung support to discuss my GPS issue. Not only did I not get an answer, the Samsung techs we spoke with on that call had different stories and no clue what the firmware version they just released was.
In summary, Samsung might have a product with great possibilities but they don't know how to deliver such possibilities. Not only have they lost me as a cell phone customer, I won't buy a single product from them. Just recently, someone I know bought another product that claim to have certain capabilities only to find out that was not the case after calling Samsung. My recommendation to those of you within 30 days, return the phone. I went past my 30 days telling myself all was going to be alright and Samsung would deliver, three months later, it was a total disappointment.
Spending $200 to be a Samsung crash test dummy is not worth it, your money is better spent somewhere else. I miss the 4" display, the live wallpapers, the notifications of the Android OS but at least my IPhone4 can find me when I decided to use the GPS and without any delay. It's a shame, I would have loved to keep my Captivate and continue to use Android. But thanks to Samsung, that experience was ruined and there was no other alternative with AT&T that I could have used to continue it.

Wow, I really did not think the Vibrant was that much better then the G2. This really makes me love my Vibrant even more then I already loved it. I really cant wait for mid oct.. well I can just knowing I already have a awesome phone. The main thing I really want is to see everyone else just as happy as I am with my Vibrant. So now as everyone can see the Vibrant is still the top phone on the block and will be for a while it seems...

Vibrant owns, pure and simple. its not perfect, no phone is and nothing in the world is. Play with all the phones. Nexus 1 is older hardware but still a nice phone. look at it this way, open source publically driven and expanded and very customizeable android operationg system. or Iphone 4 with its locked down os and propriatery accessories and apps. your decision.
keep in mind i've owned both an Iphone 3gs and iphone 4

For the record, not a troll and not a fanboy. Used to own a Captivate and still follow the forums, if you want to blame anyone for me dumping the phone, call Samsung and see how well it goes. As for calling AT&T and Samsung, look up my post in the Captivate forums. Provided plenty of contact information and department names, you can achieve the same results. Please do your homework before you insult someone. AT&T didn't just voluntarily swap my phone, logged multiple complaints and stayed on top of them until they finally swapped me out. If AT&T would have had another good Android phone I would have taken, unfortunately, that is not the case today.
All I was looking for was a working phone and one that is supported by the Vendor. Look at the history of the phone and the issues we still see today, Samsung has done little. I'm not arguing one is better than the other, if that was the case, I wouldn't be here. I got better things to do than get into a flame war over a phone.
