SanDisk 32GB for 32.99$

I want a Class 10 card. I have a 16 GB Class 2 or 4, and it is slooooow to read anything from it.

Cheapest 32 GB MicroSDHC Class 10 I can find is $57.25 with free shipping at Amazon; unfortunately it is not branded, but it has been getting good reviews.

Know anywhere I can get a 32 GB Class 10 for cheap?

32 class 10s are going to be around that same price every where. I personally have never needed that much space I think its a little over kill. But try Bestbuy I got my class 10 8gig for like 15 or 20 bucks on sale.

that's a damn good price!

i bought an 8 GB card Sandisk brand from Office Depot -- but my Esteem keeps saying that it's a 4 GB card -- got me worried that my card is a fake, is mis-labeled.....

Are you sure you are looking at the right section in sd and storage? The top section is the external sd card the 4gb in the middle section is the internal sd card....

It's the same situation with my 16 GB MicroSD card. LG Esteem uses only 4 out of the 16 GB as virtual (internal) memory for applications and application data.

LG Esteem treats the remaining 12 GB as "external" memory. That means I can use the 12 GB to store documents, music and other personal data; Esteem can still access those external data like play music off the 12 GB "external" storage. However, Esteem would not install/move applications beyond the 4 GB on the SD cards.

I believe that is because Android's FAT32 file system has a 4 GB limit. It is the same problem with Windows XP, which is also a 32-bit operating system; Windows 7 could not recognize more than 4 GB of RAM.

That 4gb is a built in sd card. Not 4gigs part of your 16. And no on the fat32. I had my 8 gig sd card partitioned at 512 and 32 Thats 544mb which is 32mb over half a gig and the rest fat32 which was a little over 7 gigs and it read every single mb of that 7 gigs of fat 32

Nope. I used App 2 SD Pro to do a simple check. App 2 SD Pro shows that my MicroSD card has "Total: 4GB", (my MicroSD card is 16 GB.) I moved some apps onto my MicroSD card.

Then, I removed my MicroSD card from the phone. Those apps (that had been moved onto the card) were no longer available. I had to put the card back for those apps to appear again.

So I am very sure the "4GB" is on my MicroSD card, not some "build-in" SD memory. App 2 SD Pro shows that Esteem's "build-in" memory for applications (outside the system memory) has only "Total: 1.48 GB", because all the craplets pre-installed by MetroPCS have taken up most of the internal 4 GB.

Why don't you try an App 2 SD and let me know if your phone's system can access more than 4 GB of your SD card?

Maybe your Apps2SD app is wrong. I personally don't see the need for an app like that for this phone. I have a 16GB sd card and my phone reads it correctly. This phone comes with three partitions: 2GB for system use, 2GB for installing apps, and a 4GB internal sd card, totaling 8GB. When i move apps to sd they go to the internal sd, not my sd card. I still have over 14GB on my external sd card.
Edit: easy way for you to understand is to plug your phone into a computer and put it in 'mass storage' and two folders pop up, one internal (phone's built in 4GB) and one external (your sd card).

Ok, so I tried your test. I had my 8gb external SD card in and then installed APP2SD Pro (had previously got it for free from Amazon) and checked and yes, it shows 4GB total for all the apps I have moved to SD. But I have previously used the internal 'manage apps' function to move all of these to the internal 4GB SD card.

I have made the external card storage for images/videos and backups for several programs such as where Titanium Backup stores backups, where ES File Explorer stores backups and a few others.

I took the card out and rebooted and checked several programs and games and they all still work. And of course APP2SD Pro still shows the 4gb total 'on SD card'.

On another forum I made the following post about the confusion with topic:

Under Menu/Settings/SD Card & Phone Storage it shows: Internal Memory: 4.00GB total, Internal Storage: 1.25GB but doesnt show total. It is here that it also shows: SD card: unavailable Total Space (it is unavailable for me since I dont have one installed). It does show I could mount an external SD card here. If you have one installed then this area should show you what your total of the card you installed is.

I believe the approx 4GB you are looking at is the internal SD card in the Esteem. From what I understand, there is suppose to be 8GB preinstalled but partitioned or divided into separate areas of usage. LG seems to think there should be a total of 8GB, Metro specs shows its 5GB and other forum members have had doubts as what the total really is. One person said they were able to see the partitions after connecting it to their PC but not sure what the totals were.
since posting this I have installed an 8gb card

A post on LG forums even has a LG Product Pro confused lol http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/...nternal-memory

Seems confusing to me as to having internal phone storage, internal SD card storage and then an ability to have external SD card storage as well. I have read a few posts where some people are having problems trying to get apps moved to their external SD card instead of the built in internal SD card. The way I see it is any external SD card you add will have to be for video media, photos, maybe music, apk backups but not apps2sd usage, but I could be wrong, just guessing

Here is a few places my phone shows the total internal space and internal SD card space but each of these areas has no place to list any external SD card:

Titantium Backup Pro shows totals of System ROM: 1.01GB, Internal: 1.58GB, SD Card: 4.29GB
Application Manager for me shows: Phone Storage: 234MB used 1.25GB free (approx1.5GB), Internal storage 1.13GB used 2.87GB free (approx4GB)
Menu/Manage Applications for me shows: Internal storage: 199mb used 1.3GB free (approx1.5GB), SD card storage: 1.1GB used 2.9GB free (approx4GB)
Astro File manager SD card usage shows: capacity: 4.09GB
Elixir shows: Internal Storage: 1.5GB, External Storage: 4GB
Also I did a test in a previous topic http://androidforums.com/lg-esteem/...ard-primary-not-internal-mem.html#post3335691:

Did a quick test with the game called Diversion.

On the phone it shows:
Total: 17.40MB
Application: 17.37MB
Data: 32.00KB
Cache: 96.00KB

Went to manage apps and selected "move to SD card", and now

On (internal) SD:
Total: 228KB
Application: 192KB
Data: 36.00KB
Cache: 96.00KB

Went to ES File Explorer to go find it on /sdcard/ but couldnt locate it. I finally found it in /mnt/asec/ along with all my other apps I had moved.

When I did todays test, APPS2SD shows the exact same info as above for the game I tested previously.

but of course, this has now gotten way off topic :)

Not every app that can be moved to SD card should be moved. Apps 2 SD can actually show me why an app can be moved but should not be moved.

When I open Apps 2 SD and see an app listed under the "movable" section but has a little x icon on it, then I know the app can be moved to the SD card but will cause some problem if it is moved. I can long-press on the app and see why it should not be moves. App 2 SD will let me know if the app has a widget component (in which case, I will just move it,) or it is integrated into the system (which means I should not move it,) or it monitors system reboot, or certain elements of the app will not work if I move it to SD, etc. That is more useful than just blindly moving everything movable to the SD card.

Anyway. Is there a way to actually install or move an app to my external SD card?

I've personally never had any problems with apps being moved to an sd card. If I go into app management and it can be moved I move it, unless it's widget that I use or a root program. If the dev has coded the app so that it can be moved then I see no reason why it wouldn't function properly. Maybe I'm just lucky but, with over 200 apps currently on my phone atm, none that I have moved have given me any problems. That's why I don't use any program that will 'force' an app to be moved. That is usually where people run into problems from the simple missing icon to the app completely crashing.

As I stated in a different thread, the new update for Root Explorer allows you to symlink. I haven't gotten around to it yet but, I was thinking of linking the .android_secure folder on the internal with the one on my external card. I have a class 10 card and I'm not sure I would recommend trying this with anything less than a class 6.

Yeah, but some apps can be moved but should not be moved:

Fast Reboot Pro: This app is supposed to automatically refresh my phone memory whenever I unlock the phone; it can be moved, but it stops working (i.e., forgets its setting) whenever I moved it to the SD card. Then I found out why: Apps 2 SD indicates that this app listens for "boot completed" and other related system events.

Mail.com app: this app can be moved, but Apps 2 SD lists four background functions that would stop working if I moved it to a SD card. I decided not to move it. If I did not see the Apps 2 SD notification, I would have moved this app.

Live Wallpapers: some can be moved, but Apps 2 SD reminds me that an active wallpapers will be disabled and replaced by the default wallpaper if I connect the phone to my laptop or another device.

Anyway, I like Apps 2 SD. I've found it to be a fairly useful app.

That's why I wanted a class 10 card.

But right now LG Esteem is still a new phone, and I don't think I want to root it now and void the warranty... at least not until LG stops putting out update and OS/upgrade for Esteem. Maybe another six months or so.

you can always return it back to stock and even unroot it, they will never know you did anything to it. ;)

Actually Apps2SD doesn't force programs but rather shows what can and can not be moved and whats already been moved to SD. I dont think it shows external SD though, just internal SD. I have the free pro version from the Amazon FAOTD. It is a very nice app but I do not have it currently installed. I am like you and just use the OS to check for programs that can be moved, and I have had no problems either.
