I think phone calls will interrupt all sat nav apps. You can always reject the call if a call comes in.

In addition to what Stuntman said, can you turn off GPS as in: Applications >> Settings >> Location services >> GPS >> GPS Satellite (Uncheck the checkbox), effectively disabling GPS and notifications.

I highly recommend that you turn of GPS when you are not using as it consumes a lot of battery power.

This phone turns off GPS when you ain't using it.
