Help Save Phone contact (Phone number and names)

Hello

Is it possible to simply back-up Phone contact to Gmail or whatever
What is the right method to do it ?

(Gmail synchronisation seems to not get anything from phone contact)

Do I need a special application and an USB cable ?

N.B : I'm using the Samsung Galaxy SII
