Saving Handcent texts to storage / pc

I need to upgrade my android from 2.2 to 2.3 as I think the lower grade software is causing me problems when sending and receiving pictures. I have been using Handcent for all my text messages and am desperate to save ALL my text messages onto my pc before I allow the android upgrade to go ahead. I would want to put the texts back onto my HTC desire after 2.3 is installed. Can anyone please help me. I have some very special texts which I am emotionally attached to - I couldn't bear to lose them.

SMS back up and restore from that market.

That backed up and restored my 6k (ish) messages.

+1 for this app!

The xml file containing all of your texts (sent and received) can be exported too so should you ever lose/damage your phone, you can have a copy on your PC and transfer them when you next can. You can also read them on your PC via Excel.

Also, I'm not 100% about this, but I think MyPhoneExplorer syncs all messages with your PC and you can refer to them in a more aesthetic layout.

SMS Backup+ can automatically back them up to your gmail account.

MyBackup can also be used to back up messages.

Plenty of options :)

my Backup+ only restores about 100 SMS per contact, thats why i stopped using it.

Odd, it restores more than that for me (I use it for moving messages between ROMs rather than SMS Backup+ just because the restore is quicker - SMS Backup+ saves me when I slip up ;))

Any of these apps can do that - you will need to reinstall the app, then restore from the backup.

As most or of these apps are free (or have free versions), you can play extra safe and use more than one of them.

oh, :s how weird is that! if it worked properly for me it would of been perfect, but i have SMS backup and Restore to automaticly back up messages every few hours, still, to Gmail would of been nice.

Ah, I see I crossed wires slightly - read "my Backup+" as "MyBackup"!

But I think know what your problem with SMS Backup+ was: go into "Advanced Settings" -> "Restore Settings" and there's a "Items per restore" limit. I have it set to "all", but the default was probably 100 (first option on the list).
