Root Saving scenes after rooted

I've flashed GingerVillian on my Desire and then made various changes to the appearance. Before I do more or download some new themes I want to save this one but can't find any clues how to. I think the idea of 'scenes' is perhaps a Sense thing but I presume there must be a way. It may be so obvious I'm missing it but help would be welcome. Thanks

Unfortunately you aren't missing anything. "Scenes" is indeed a Sense thing. Most 3rd party launchers have the option to save/backup the configuration somewhere (don't know about the default launcher in GV, is a year since I used it), but while it saves launcher settings and app icon locations you usually have to replace the widgets - you can see where they are, but they don't usually work.

You could try backing up the current state of the launcher using Titanium - that's about as effective as most launchers' own backups (i.e. not very, see above).

A nandroid backup will of course save it, but that also is a snapshot of the complete state of all of your apps and data, and you can't just reload the launcher configuration.

Ah, ok thanks. So when people show their new look in the 'show us your homescreen' forums they have lost their previous theme? I'm suprised the developers haven't generally kept that feature but I guess there must be a reason. I suppose running something like LauncherPro gives that facility.
More playing....

LauncherPro lets you save your settings, but it's like I said: you get to see where your widgets were, but you need to replace them after restoring the setup.

It's not so much a matter of removing the Scenes feature as never having it. It's purely a Sense thing, and probably relies on some features of the Sense framework.
