hey guys I'm new to the rooting thing, and am just a bit concerned about the idea of destroying my phone. is this a common problem or am I being paranoid? also how do I start this process

I've rooted nearly all my Android devices (tablets and phones) but have always done it with loads of reading BEFOREHAND!
