School Lunch

i totally remember those pizzas!!! they were my favorite too. we were also given butter sandwiches....healthy? absolutely not....

I remembered I loved buttered sandwich with sugar :D So yummy...so unhealthy XD Oh...this was not given by the school.

Butter sandwitches! Ewwe!... I remember MY teacher forcing me to drink the milk
I was one of those kids who HATED milk....needless to say....after she was on the receiving end of fierce projectile emissions gushed forth from my tiny mouth......i had that prob no more. She never forced me to eat rest of that year

I mean I was tugging on her minutes after drinking....she finally looked right at me.....and.....and I tried to say im gettn sick......then.

..Whoooosh! ! ! Bullseye

Considering that the federal government now recognizes the tomato paste in pizza as a vegetable serving, I think it's fair to say that they have no authority when it comes to deciding what's nutritious and what's not nutritious.

It would be interesting to see what foods this inspector has in their kitchen right now. Maybe the local tax payers should exercise their rights to ensure that their employees are eating healthy since a sick federal worker costs more than a healthy one.

Oh and give me an Apple Butter sammich over a butter and sugar sammich any day, but I did the butter and sugar sammiches too and those aren't too shabby if a little fattening.

We had some type of yellowish roll that look like it was dusted with corn meal? I dont remember just what it was but those helped wash down the meatloaf suprize squares...

Never seen a butter sammich in skool

I love apple butter sammich :) So yummy!!! I eat it with any type of crackers as well. I just don't like that when it ages, it gets awfully sweet :(

Anybody remember these for school lunch dessert? Peanut Butter "and potato" swirl? I guess with todays restrictions...this would be reclassified as a "meat and veggie meal"

We've a TV Chef over here called Jamie Oliver who started a "food revolution" to get those sorts of things banned. As a result of the program, it's now illegal over here to serve processed food in schools.

This was one of the main vids that convinced the government to do something (there is some NSFW language at the start of the vid):

Whilst he's a bit of a tool, he's done some pretty good things over here with regards to kids eating habbits. Things still aren't great, but they're moving in the right direction.

He also forgot to include one ingredient that varies from franchise to franchise if the chicken nuggets come from a fast food joint (although I'm sure it's not beneath a school room cafeteria person to do something similar), teenage McWorker spit, or some other foreign "ingredient" available to the teenager at the time of preparation.

We didn't have that potato swirl but we did have some mystery 'beef' swirl roll type thing smothered in gravy. Now that was really gross! Looked like a cinnamon roll but was dry and filled with a gluey 'beef' swirl. I will say it again, gross!
And butter sammiches were great...

lol, umm no? I thought those were cow brains or something at first glance....

Ha, ha. Try bringing anything with peanuts to a school nowadays. You get within 1,000 feet of the school with a PBJ and they call the swat team.

I don't know what has changed in the 30 or so years since I was in grade school, but they way they treat peanut allergies today make me think that I should have seen kids dropping like flies at lunch. And I don't mean this as an insult to folks with peanut allergies, I know it is real. I just don't know why it seems like a recent phenomenon.

Ugggh! I remember that!..it had overcooked mushy rice swirled into beef by-products smothered in brown gravy.. There was this kid I used to ALWAYS give mine to him for his cookies.

The peanutbutter swirl was really tasty....back then I didnt KNOW it was potatoe with powder sugar mixed... I thought I was eating a school version of those old Brock caramel candies.. Remember the caramel with powder sugar center? Thats what these tasted like.

I don't think ours were rice, it was more biscuit-like. Couldn't give 'em away at my school and more than one was used as a hockey puck/frisbee/baseball. You had to pay attention to the overhead airspace on that day.
