Scotland independance

Yeah I agree. If Scotland is to be given independence, the UK needs to give more power gradually so Scotland can actually be self sufficient before independence. Otherwise it's a pointless exercise.

I also agree that their should be 4 Parliaments for each of the UK countries, so that we all get the same deal.

Four parliaments?! You mean EVEN MORE politicians?!

I don't think we can afford 'em .. thieving b******* that they are

There already are four parliaments, technically it would have to be five!

However, I would suggest that Scotland, Wales and northern Ireland get rid of all MPs. English ones just become members of an English parliament! Then for decisions that are joint, nominated members from each parliament can meet and debate etc

Obviously things wouldn't be as simple as this, but it would solve any issues on the Lothian question!

Nominated by who?

BTW, some of the Westminister MP's from NI don't actually attend Parliament in London.

Abstentionism

Since the establishment of the Northern Ireland Assembly under the Good Friday Agreement, both the SDLP and Sinn F

I know you are satarising the public attitude, but I take issue with it. Most politicians aren't thieves, at worst they tend to be incompetent. I always think its a shame the North East parliament got shot down in the referendum, I think a move towards federalism would have been a good one.

And they still get money from the British taxpayer. A disgrace really, they should take their seats or resign.

Now now...this always comes up, and it ain't straight forward.

They got their mandate from voters who knew this was their policy.....

They will not resign, they will not sit in Westminster.....their election program includes this fact!!

Force the issue, they will stand again, and get a fresh mandate, where are we then??

Stop them from standing, someone else will...we have been here before....we know where it leads.

The voters are sovereign, they make their choice, we have to find a way to make it work.....political realism!!

OK, maybe not thieves. Well, not all of them. Just a lot of them (see the recent expenses scandal).

at worst they tend to be incompetent.

Err .. no. At worst they tend to be hideously corrupt. By any definition other than the legal - which, not coincidentally, they define.

If you pay money to a politician or political party in order to influence policy in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe or South America we call it bribery and condemn it. When it occurs in the west we call it lobbying and we're supposed to think it's fine. It's not. Politicians are elected to represent the interests of their constituents, not whoever pays them the most.

They should herd all the politicians into Westminster, change the locks and call it a prison.

And don't get me started on the Lords ..

And they still get money from the British taxpayer. A disgrace really, they should take their seats or resign.

It is a disgrace but it is what they were elected to do. You can't help thinking their constituents would be better served if they actually went to Westminster and tried to influence policy there, though.
