Scratch on my beloved :(

Mitchell4500

Iv made extra sure to keep it safe and iv not been using screen protector as I find them annoying. Today I realized I had 2 tiny little scratches in my beloved screen. Anyone know and ideas how I could possibly remove them?

I bought a screen protector today hoping maybe it would make it less noticeable. Didnt work.

Please spare me the "omg u should gots screen protectioned the first time"

When I google cell phone scratch remover, there are a bunch of results. I personally never tried any, so can't give you any information on which i like / what's best, etc. There's something out there though, I'm sure. But if you get a good screen protector, you won't even know it's on there. Too late now, but hope you get it fixed.

Most products I'm seeing for this are under $10.

I thought I read somewhere that these screens weren't suppose to scratch so easily. Mine is little, but noticeable - If yours are that bad (with all the problems people are reporting with the bolt), I'm sure you can find a way to get an exchange. Put those screen protectors on - less than 2 weeks without dropping this thing and it's scratched. I know, my fault, but if anyone thought a screen protector was to much of a hassle (or unnecessary), think again.

The TB doesn't have Gorilla Glass! But I'll break the news to everyone, the Fascinate had Gorilla Glass, and I still got a few hair line scratches. Was never dropped, ever! So these screens can get scratched no matter what kind of glass it has.

Hmm... Its one of those scratches when its on you can see it and it distorts the image. Im not sure what to do.

Pack it up and return it for a new one. But get a little bit creative. Don't say that's the reason. Blame something else...lol

Lying is never good... Too many people want something for nothing. Disturbing actually.

Umm, this is not the Barry Bonds case! Seriously now...get a grip!

To the OP...exercise the 15 day return poilcy, and get a brand new one! With all the money you, and the rest of us spend on these insanely high cell phone bills, its the least they could do in letting u use the one time exchange policy.

Maybe we should cut the op some slack.. these screens seem to be made out of some type of chalk/glass combo. If your having any other problems with it, wouldn't really be lying to take it in and see what they say.

The reason return policies have become more and more strict and give you a lot more hassle when you have a legitimate problem over time is because of abuse by people. Guess who ultimately ends up footing the bill to cover all of these people who get new stuff for free. Hint: It's not the company.

Stuff happens, people need to man up to their errors instead of trying to find some way to get someone else to take the fall.

Okey dokey - we ALL understand the need and frustration, and the ability to work the system to get a replacement when we screw up. That said - I gotta do the cop thing and point out that our forums can't really condone fraud, so please move away from this part of the discussion, thanks in advance.

The question is - is there some kind of scratch remover?

Scratch removers come in two kinds: a jelly that fills in cracks and scratces and then hardens (smells like airplane glue and about as fun to work with) and a polishing compound, read: an abrasive liquid where you're really going to end up kinda sanding the glass until the scratch is gone - as you might with a piece of wood.

As neither is ideal, best to try out either on an old, dead cellphone or similar device before even thinking of trying this sort of thing on a Bolt.

And - warn all your friends: despite the type of glass technology, demonstrations and claims, sand (one of the active ingredients in sandpaper and also glass) can and will scratch any smartphone face.

Hope this helps.

I got the Ghost Armor full protection on mine the first day that I left the house with it and Ive dropped it twice with zero physical ill effects. Well worth it and the guy barely used any of the solution so my phone wasnt dripping. I love it so far.

Also, supposedly it will fill in scratches and youll never notice them. Id check that out.

Trust me on this advice coming from an EVO, these screens are VERY fragile. You need to have a protector on them at all times. If you drop this phone on a hard surface I would say its an 80% chance the digitizer is going to shatter. SCREEN PROTECTOR+CASE+INSURANCE is a must for this handset. This handset is very heavy when it its the ground it sounds like you just dropped a brick.

I got the screen protector at the Verizon store and I must admit I cannot tell a diff between the screen naked and with it, that and the rep did a wonderful job applying the screen to it.

I won't dig to much into this because I respect Earlymon a lot, and I understand his point to change the mood of the Thread.

However, the reason VZW has tightened up policies is because of one, the iPhone...its also why they shortened the return period to 15 days from 30.
And two, the fact that these companies have cheaped out on build quality to an extreme...Namely HTC! Sorry a power button should not recess in a week, a volume button should not be faulty out of the box, a kickstand should not scratch from putting it on your pocket, dust should not get under the screen, and most definitly, the screen should be able to at least make it through a week without getting scratched if u take care of it, and not drop it. The reality is, HTC is not good at these things above. So when someone hits one of these problems and exercises the ONE time return policy, that's understandable. If you outright scratched it with your nail or dropped it, well then its on you to take responsibility for your actions. But phantom scratches shouldn't happen after a week if your careful, that's HTC not using quality glass...point being, a screen protecter would be a good idea if the OP gets a new one, or uses one of the methods Earlymon has mentioned.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do to remove the scratch. Maybe a higher quality screen protector will make it less obvious.

You could return for a cracked screen, but either way you'll probably have to pay your insurance deductible.

....screen should be able to at least make it through a week without getting scratched...

A little bit of dirt or sand mixed in with the lint in your pocket will scratch pretty much anything short of a diamond. This isn't an HTC quality issue imo. My og droid screen was gorilla glass and it still had scratches. Not matter how careful you are, if you don't have a screen protector on it out of the box, it's not a matter of if your screen will get scratched but when.

That said, I will use a case but I don't use screen protectors. I accept the risk that comes along with that decision. As the op should and seems that he does. Now you just have to man up and deal with it. Like I said, maybe a higher quality screen protector will mask the scratch.

Yea I dont use screen protectors either...same as you I take the risk of a naked screen, and I just throw a high gloss silicone case on. A lint free micro fiber cloth takes care of any finger prints through out the day.

Even though it was ugly, I left the cheap static plastic (thats ironically says remove before use) on mine until my Stealth Guards came in...

OP, Im sorry to hear about your misfortune...I would take Earlys advice and RESEARCH the screen repair methods before buying... As we have discussed here, there are different types of glass so the repair methods may differ for each...

Not to feed the fire but I have considered calling and trying to get another as I usually treat my phones very well. My old Ally is in great condition. Iv been a customer with verizon for 15 years and have 3 lines, 2 with data. It almost seems like the screen glass is junk on this. I think im going to try a home method of repair like filling the crack in with petroleum jelly or oil and then putting the protector over it.

If that docent work I might try purchasing a kit to do it.

I use monster clean on it every other day. that thing really works, it creates kind of a layer between screen and your hands and the dust never really builds up on screen. I dont get that many fingerprints on it either. I tried zagg but zagg really killed the feeling on the screen I might buy the plastic one on their from verizon store since I tried it on my friends phone and didn't kill the feel of the screen. Plus Zagg looked plain ugly during the day.

If you were to put a zagg cover on it the scratch would not be visible I would say. Steinheil you still maybe able to see scratches. But that is just because of how much clearer the steinheil's are.
